Why Popularity Contests and CMS Systems Don’t Go Together

March 23, 2017

Why Popularity Contests and CMS Systems Don’t Go Together

Users who are ready to launch their very first website tend to be attracted to the most popular choices of content management systems. Right at the top of the list is WordPress, closely followed by the likes of Joomla!, Drupal, Magento, ModX, and vBulletin. Thanks to algorithms and paid advertising, the rankings are often a bit misleading. When it comes to choosing the right CMS, the process deserves a little more than a simple Google search, as technical abilities and other important factors should also be considered.

The Hack Tracker

When a website owner wishes to monetize their site and perhaps add an e-commerce aspect as well, it’s imperative that they choose a secure CMS. Recent reports rate WordPress as one of the most dangerous CMSs for those who have an e-commerce site. WordPress is followed by Joomla! And Magento. A small percentage also goes to Drupal. This information is both informative and a little disappointing, considering the high number of recommendations for their platforms.

User Experience and Technical Know-How

It’s important to know and understand more than just an overview of different CMS’s and what they can offer. For instance, some of the platforms require users to have a basic to intermediate understanding of coding before attempting the big stuff. If this isn’t the case, that website could sit on the shelf for a very long time or could result in a high price tag as website owners harness the skills of developers to get the job done. Ongoing maintenance could also be an issue as many of these platforms have limitations as to what can be done on the backend.

More than Just a Blog

Website owners who require their sites to be a bit more dynamic and responsive will want to use a CMS platform that responds better to coding. This is for those who wish to have business or enterprise websites, not just merely a blog. For these, users recommend looking into CMS platforms such as Liferay, Typo 3, CMS Made Simple, and Alfresco. These platforms provide far more sophisticated access, however, they do require the user to have more superior skills. Another CMS platform to consider is Movable Type, which is regarded as an advanced version of WordPress. This is the ideal platform for those who wish to create news site content, online publications, and sophisticated blogs.

iPhone 8 Looking to Top the Storage Charts… Again

March 17, 2017

iPhone 8 Looking to Top the Storage Charts… Again

With the highly-anticipated release of the 10th anniversary iPhone upgrade, one of the things users can look forward to is a slightly different design. As the anniversary phone, it’s rumoured to have some terrific app upgrades as well, but for those who have stuck with the iPhone through the worst and the best times, the on-board storage is usually what sets it apart from the rest. There are the picture quality and extensive list of apps that add into the mix as well, but the storage is what brings users back for more.

What the iPhone 7 Plus Left Us With

Apart from a small hissing sound when the A10 Fusion Chip (quad-core!) is in full force, the iPhone 7 Plus is a near-perfect design. It provides users with waterproof, dust proof design but it’s really the 2x optical zoom that sets this phone apart from the rest. The phone packs a 5.5in 1,080 x 1,920 resolution display and also features a slightly longer battery life.

One of the downsides of this phone is the exorbitant price for only a few additional features. There is also the fact that there is no headphone jack, which could send a few previous iPhone fans running to android technology. For those who have the iPhone 6, they may want to wait for the release of the iPhone 8 before they upgrade. This model offers users 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options, which puts the brand right at the top of the food chain.

Even With All That On board Storage….

iPhone users have become accustomed to using iCloud services, however, a recent spate of hacking activities have sent iCloud users looking for the best alternatives. Cloud storage is useful not only for the ability to keep documents and images safe, but it also creates an easy platform for interaction and sharing. Users who wish to utilize the best of on board and online storage should consider their options carefully. Pricing, functionality, syncing, accessibility and security are all essential factors when it comes to choosing the right options.

When this storage starts running out, it might be time to free up some space. Movies, music, clips, and podcasts all take up a substantial amount of room. Backing these up to cloud storage can sometimes result in duplication’s and need to be cleared out from time to time.

What does “Roguelike” mean ?

March 3, 2017

Roguelike –is a subgenre of role-playing video games characterized by a dungeon crawl through procedurally generated game levels, turn-based gameplay, tile-based graphics, and permanent death of the player-character. Most roguelikes are based on a high fantasy narrative, reflecting their influence from tabletop role playing games such as Dungeons & Dragons. Though the roguelikes Beneath Apple Manor and Sword of Fargoal predate it, the 1980 game Rogue is considered the forerunner and the namesake of the genre, with derivative games mirroring Rogue‘s character- or sprite-based graphics. These games were popularized among college students and computer programmers of the 1980s and 1990s, leading to a large number of variants but adhering to these common gameplay elements, often titled the “Berlin Interpretation”. Some of the better-known variants include Hack, NetHack, Ancient Domains of Mystery, Moria, Angband, and Tales of Maj’Eyal. The Japanese series of Mystery Dungeon games by Chunsoft, inspired by Rogue, also fall within the concept of roguelike games.

More recently, with more powerful home computers and gaming systems, new variations of roguelikes incorporating other gameplay genres, thematic elements and graphical styles have become popular, typically retaining the notion of procedural generation and permanent death of the player-character. Indie games like Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space, Spelunky, The Binding of Isaac, FTL: Faster Than Light, and Rogue Legacy helped to establish the use of roguelike elements in other genres. These titles are sometimes labeled as “roguelike-like”, “rogue-lite”, or “procedural death labyrinths” to reflect the variation from titles which mimic the gameplay of traditional roguelikes more faithfully. Other games, like Diablo and UnReal World, key titles in the action role-playing and the survival game genres respectively, took inspiration from roguelikes.

Price$74.99 CAD / For Unlimited Devices

A. Installing AVG4.0 Great” – There is no doubt that AVG has improved in this area. But saying that we had very mixed results with some of our team getting AVG Internet Security installed the first go around. While other team members took 3 or 4 times to install AVG Internet Security 2016.

B. Un-installing AVG – 4.5 Great” – AVG Free Anti-Virus 2015 is a lot cleaner un-installer this time around. Much better compared to previous versions of AVG going back 5 or 6 years.

————————–

C. Stability Of Program5.0 Excellent – The UI (User Interface) seems to have been completely fixed in AVG 2014. Along with the jenkey manual update option.

————————–

D. Has AVG Free Been Compromised By Hackers Or Virus4.0Great” – No reports of AVG being compromised.

E. Speed of Scan5.0 Excellent – Very quick on most computers.

F. Updating – 5.0 Excellent – Automatic and manual updating is great. No more issues here compared to AVG 2014 manual update lag spikes.

G. Does AVG Free Do Automatic Updates By Itself Without Any Issue5.0 Excellent – Yes, you can now with, no doubt. But leave the manual update option alone unless you want to invite stability related issues.

H. Internet Browser Cookie Detection Rate And Removal Test2.0 Poor– You are way better off with something like SUPERAntiSpyware or CCleaner that is more dedicated to removal of Internet cookies. AVG Internet cookie detection rate is terrible even with the option active and checked off.

1. Anti-Virus Detection Rate Test:

1A. Windows XP – 4.0Great

1B. Windows Vista – 4.0Great

1C. Windows 74.0Great

1D. Windows 8.14.0Great

1E. Windows 104.0Great

————————–

2. Residential Shield Test 4.0Great – I still find SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware seems to grab the virus way before AVG does.

————————–

Computers Protection

————————–

3A. Anti-Virus Scanner – 4.0Great” – AVG has finally beaten their just average score. And that should tell you a lot.

3B. Anti-Rootkit Scanner4.0Great” – Great option. Works well.

————————–

Web Browsing Protection

————————–

4A. Link Scanner4.5 Great“ – Not a fan. But it can be very useful to some.

4B. Online Shield2.5Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

————————–

Identity Protection

————————–

5A. Identity Protection 2.0Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

————————–

E-mail Protection

————————–

6A. E-mail Scanner3.0Average” – Utterly baseline and average. I found no use for it.

6B. Anti-Spam3.0 Average” – Utterly baseline and average. Not even worth the setup.

————————–

Firewall

————————–

7. Firewall5.0 Excellent – By no means perfect. But way better then your standalone Windows built in Firewall

————————–

Extra Features

————————–

8. File Shredder4.0Great – I found this addition to be very useful. But lacking the multiple layer shredding options that Spybot – Search & Destroy or even Advance System Care 7 has.

9. PC Analyzer (AKA. PC TuneUp) – 0.5Abysmal“- If you don’t mind that this option just reports errors on your computer and does not even allow you to correct said error. Even once as was the case in the past.

Then your probably are like me and you probably feel this options is both somewhat misleading and out right bait to buy this expensive $39.99 CAD/USD add-on. Then you are probably with me on my conclusion. That it should not be there in the first place. Try giving us features that are fully functional and at least somewhat useful like the shredder option.

10. Tech Buddy Support0.0Abysmal” – This is just a cash grab. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised and overally misleading to the end user.

11. AVG Direct Support0.5Abysmal” – With only a free forum and a phone number to call for support.

You will often find yourself ether being told to go to the free forum or they will recommend you go to further specialized support team via Tech Buddy. Which like I said above is an epic MONEY GRAB. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised as well as overally misleading.

————————–

My Overall Score: 91/130

70 % = B –

————————–

My Final Verdict – AVG Free Anti-Virus 2016 takes the same approach. That AVG 2015 took with regards to the UI (User-Interface) and streamlined interface.  It is very simple and easy to navigate. Just the way that an anti-virus program should be.

**As per the norm it is highly recommend that you upgrade to the newest version of AVG Internet Security 2016 when available and or prompted.

Coded Arms – PSP Game Review

February 17, 2017

Genra: First Person Shooter (FPS)

About This Game: Coded Arms takes place in an abandoned virtual reality system inside a giant computer network. The VR system was originally created as a combat training simulator in the event of an alien invasion. However, during this program’s development, a major flaw was discovered and the project was scrapped. Though abandoned, the program kept evolving within the computer network and eventually turned into a vast and brutal VR world populated with virtual alien invaders, dangerous computer bugs, the VR system’s own security bots and huge boss enemies. Players take the role of a computer hacker who infiltrates the VR system. Gamers fight through five different game worlds with multiple gameplay levels. More than 30 different weapons are available to battle the horde of virtual creatures, including real world weapons such as sniper rifles, machine guns, grenades, and more fantastic armaments such as pulse rifles.

Gameplay: 7/10 – This game has some minor aiming issues

Learning Curve : Easy – Insane difficulty – There are control issues when looking up some elements take some getting use to like portal colours..and such and upgrade icons

Graphics/Sound: 8/10 – Looks great it pulls of the whole Metal Gear Solid VR sim experience and it is suppose to be a sim that has gotten infected by nasty Viruses so very well done.

Lasting Appeal: 8/10 – There are a lot of items and areas to unlock and there are always things you missed.

The Whole Package: 8.5/10 – Great game very easy to find and very affordable

Overall rating 8.5/10 – This game has really fast load times. Very Cool weapons and a difficulty level that increases after each zone

Till My Next PSP Game review,

Remy “Se7en”

BomberMan Classic – Gameboy Advanced Game Review –

February 17, 2017

Gameplay: 2/10 – You move Bomberman and it takes a few seconds to react compared to the original NES version and you feel you are moving in a black hole. You move so slow you can’t catch up to any bad guy making it really hard to beat a level. Very different compared to the original

Learning Curve : Easy difficulty – this game..is a cake walk once you figure out how it works….

Graphics: 1/10 – terrible it looks washed out and it hurts your eye to focus

Lasting Appeal: 2.5/10 It has the kewl save option..that helps it a bit..I always hated to have to complete the game in one sitting..or remember the stupid pass code

The Whole Package: 2/10 – save is kewl..other then that..even me..that has all Bomberman games…I fealt like…I just burned my money…..when I bough this game for $3  + shipping on e-Bay

Overall rating 2/10 – AVOID..it please guys…you may like the game..for like 30min..then your going to want to put it away..and never play it again..because how embarrassed you are..you got stuck..with such a sub-par game..

Extra Info: from the box art..you’d think you just bought a copy of a long lost Metroid game..I think that is really..funny how similar they look…

I hope you enjoyed yet another Gameboy SP Game review….

MegaMan Powered Up – PSP Game Review –

February 17, 2017

Gameplay: 7.5/10 -This game seems to have very tight controls and jumping and landing on edges can and is very frustrating to say the very least.

Learning Curve : Easy – Insane difficulty – You should have no real issue getting thought MegaMan’s powered up levels on easy with no real issue. But after that it can be a real ball buster.

Graphics: 9/10 – I was really impressed with the whole graphics experience way to go CAPCOM you did the PSP proud.

Lasting Appeal: 8/10There is tons to do is this game you can play as FlameMan , IceMan, and so on and each player add a new element to the game which is really great.

The Whole Package: 8/10 – I say it is a must have for PSP owners and with so much to do including 3 levels of difficulty and a few different other player other then MegaMan and the ability to create levels you won’t want to put this down anytime soon.

Overall rating 8/10 – This game is one of the cheaper PSP games even new and it is well worth the price. But my 2 main issues with it which are minor is that FlameMan is unbalanced next to the other characters and also the issues with super tight controls feeling you want to jump so high. But you can’t or want to stop on a dime and can’t.

Later Dayz,

Remy “Se7en”

The Untold Legends Franchise – PSP Review and Summary

February 17, 2017

As you may or not know I’m a heavy Action RPG fan. Saying that I am very familiar with a franchise first seen on the PSP called Untold Legends: Brother Hood Of The Blade. It had a lot going for it. It was like a portable Diablo on the go experience only with EXCESSIVE load screens at every turn.

The first game as I said above was called “Untold Legends: Brother Hood Of The Blade” a pretty basic Dungeon crawler (Action RPG)  that was released on 03/25/05 in North America. What made this game really great was that even a mouse a keyboard or even a PC by your side you could take on this whole very well built world. You could easily play this game with a very short learning curve.

The Story: Journey to a world beyond the realms of imagination and engage in battles to save Aven, a timeless city of safe haven and the last remaining stronghold of Good in a world of Evil. As a dark threat looms and a gathering of unknown forces grows stronger, heroes have been called and the Brotherhood of the Blade has been formed. It is up to you and your chosen brothers to unravel the mysteries of this looming peril.

At this time “Untold Legends: Brother Hood Of The Blade” is not a game compatible or enhanced in anyway for the Vita. But Sony says it is indeed coming soon. Perhaps we may even see it shortly there after E3.

————————–

Untold Legends: Brother Hood Of The Blade” went on to produce a sequel also for the PSP called Untold Legends: The Warrior’s Code. This was a true squeal indeed with many improvements. As well as address the crazy long load times. and adding more character classes and shape shifting.

————————–

The second game was called “Untold Legends: The Warrior’s Code” which was also a pretty basic Dungeon crawler (Action RPG)  that was released on 03/28/06 in North America. There were some notable improvements such as there were more than 45 areas featuring interactive objects, devious traps, destructible walls and ambient creatures.

The Story: In The Warrior’s Code, the realm is one of chaos and oppression as a powerful warlord’s horrific minions continue to slaughter and enslave the people. As one of five shape-changing characters, players will challenge their skills through an epic story line consisting of five chapters with in-game cinematics, voiceovers and an upgraded Quest Journal.

At this time “Untold Legends: The Warrior’s Code” is not a game compatible or enhanced in anyway for the Vita. But Sony says it is indeed coming soon. Perhaps we may even see it shortly there after E3.

The third game was called “Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom” which was a more advanced Dungeon crawler (Action RPG)  that was released on 11/15/06 in North America. There were some notable improvements both graphic and story wise as it was a PS3 game instead of a PSP game. This game came to little fan fair and had quite a few poor scores from big name sites.

The Story: After serving the King loyally for years in foreign conflicts, an elite unit of knights return home to find it a changed place. Appalled by the discovery that dark magic has corrupted their kingdom and that the King now plans to use them against their own people, the knights devise a plan to assassinate the malevolent ruler. When the attempt on the King’s life is foiled, the would-be assassins barely escape and are on the run from an army they once served, the assassins must survive in a kingdom they no longer recognize

————————–

So now that the Vita is out and it would be very easy to add cross play or on the go dungeon crawling. I feel that is it a good possibility that Untold Legends franchise may indeed get a 4th kick a t the can. Whether it be for both Vita and PS3 or just the Vita.
