F. Updating – 5.0 Excellent – Automatic and manual updating is great. No more issues here compared to AVG 2014 manual update lag spikes.

G. Does AVG Free Do Automatic Updates By Itself Without Any Issue5.0 Excellent – Yes, you can now with, no doubt. But leave the manual update option alone unless you want to invite stability related issues.

H. Internet Browser Cookie Detection Rate And Removal Test2.0 Poor– You are way better off with something like SUPERAntiSpyware or CCleaner that is more dedicated to removal of Internet cookies. AVG Internet cookie detection rate is terrible even with the option active and checked off.

1. Anti-Virus Detection Rate Test:

1A. Windows XP – 4.0Great

1B. Windows Vista – 4.0Great

1C. Windows 74.0Great

1D. Windows 8.14.0Great

1E. Windows 104.0Great

————————–

2. Residential Shield Test 4.0Great – I still find SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware seems to grab the virus way before AVG does.

————————–

Computers Protection

————————–

3A. Anti-Virus Scanner – 4.0Great” – AVG has finally beaten their just average score. And that should tell you a lot.

3B. Anti-Rootkit Scanner4.0Great” – Great option. Works well.

————————–

Web Browsing Protection

————————–

4A. Link Scanner4.5 Great“ – Not a fan. But it can be very useful to some.

4B. Online Shield2.5Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

————————–

————————–

5A. Identity Protection 2.0Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

————————–

E-mail Protection

————————–

6A. E-mail Scanner3.0Average” – Utterly baseline and average. I found no use for it.

6B. Anti-Spam3.0 Average” – Utterly baseline and average. Not even worth the setup.

9. PC Analyzer (AKA. PC TuneUp) – 0.5Abysmal“- If you don’t mind that this option just reports errors on your computer and does not even allow you to correct said error. Even once as was the case in the past.

Then your probably are like me and you probably feel this options is both somewhat misleading and out right bait to buy this expensive $39.99 CAD/USD add-on. Then you are probably with me on my conclusion. That it should not be there in the first place. Try giving us features that are fully functional and at least somewhat useful like the shredder option.

10. Tech Buddy Support0.0Abysmal” – This is just a cash grab. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised and overally misleading to the end user.

11. AVG Direct Support0.5Abysmal” – With only a free forum and a phone number to call for support.

You will often find yourself ether being told to go to the free forum or they will recommend you go to further specialized support team via Tech Buddy. Which like I said above is an epic MONEY GRAB. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised as well as overally misleading.

————————–

My Overall Score: 91/130

70 % = B –

————————–

My Final Verdict – AVG Free Anti-Virus 2016 takes the same approach. That AVG 2015 took with regards to the UI (User-Interface) and streamlined interface.  It is very simple and easy to navigate. Just the way that an anti-virus program should be.

**As per the norm it is highly recommend that you upgrade to the newest version of AVG Internet Security 2016 when available and or prompted.

AVG Anti-Virus FREE for AndroidProtection

D1. App(s) Protection5.0Excellent” – AVG will tell you is the app is rouge and not affiliated with the Android App store. It does an excellent job at this. Thus far it has warned me 3 times.

D2. Settings Protection5.0Excellent” – This option is very simple yet very important. It makes sure in your options to install and download apps of “unknown sources” will not be allowed to occur. Other then that super important job. I saw no other reason for this Protection option.

D3. Content Protection4.0Great” – This feature is by no means outstanding. But I have had a few “AD” detection’s. I’m assuming that means “AD”-ware. But I can’t be sure at this point.

————————–

E. Real Time Scanner5.0Excellent” – This feature works like a charm. You can ever see it in action.

E1. SD Card Scanner – 3.5Average– Nothing special here. This is pretty much an external SD card memory scanner.

E2. File Scanner5.0Excellent” – This feature works as expected.

E3. Safe Web Surfing3.5Average” – Nothing special here. No detentions or warning. I’m still unclear as to what this protection is suppose to do.

I. Updating3.0Average – It needs to be updated manually and it won’t always update the first attempt.

J. AVG SupportNot Tested

————————–

My Overall Score: 84.5/100

84.5 % = A –

————————–

My Final Verdict –Part 1 The main difference with AVG Anti-Virus FREE Smart Phone App. Is that is it split into 4 different layers of protection.

The 1st layer would be your Protection

1. Apps -This is where the scanner will pick up any rouge apps. That are not certified via the (Google Play App Store).

2. Content – This is where you’ll find out if you downloaded or transferred a virus on to your smart phone. Via Wi-Fi, USB or Bluetooth.

3. Settings – Is also very important and often overlooked when people first get their phone. Often there are settings with in setting that make your smart phone less then secure. Such as letting unknown or un-certified apps to collect your private data, Or transmitting your location without your permission (Also known as Geo-tagging).

The 2nd layer is the AVG Anti-Virus FREE Smart Phone App Performance

1. Task Killer

2. Battery Consumption

4. Wipe Personal Data

5. Data Usage

6. Storage Usage

The 3rd layer is the AVG Anti-Virus FREE Smart Phone App Anti-Theft

1. Device Locator

The 4th layer is the AVG Anti-Virus FREE Smart Phone App Privacy

1. App Locker – Only 10 day limited trial

2. App Backup – Only 10 day limited trail

3. Wipe Device

4. Wipe SD Card

My Final Verdict –Part 2 Now performance wise. This is no watered down version of the full blow PC version of AVG. Yes, there are less options and scanning is a lot slower. Due to current mobile phone limitations. But other then that you get what you would expect. A rather good free Anti-Virus program.

**As per the norm it is highly recommend that you upgrade to the newest version of AVG Anti-Virus FREE Smart Phone App when available. Also important is to update your AVG virus definitions as often as possible. Which in the case of this App there are new virus definition updates (Nearly) everyday.

————————–

F4. Storage Usage – 4.5Great” – A really great option to check on both your Internal Memory and your SD card memory stats.

AVG Anti-Virus FREE for Android Privacy

F. App LockerN/A – Not available in Free version

AVG Anti-Virus FREE for Android Anti-Thief

G. Anti-TheftNot Tested

————————–

H. Speed of Scan4.0Great – Way faster scans then in past versions of this app. Way to improve AVG Team.

Due to mobile phone limitations.
