Scam Watch: Skype Abuses

Dear Readers,

Hello everyone… I’m back from my long vacation from my feature duty’s and I have plenty to talk about. So lets get started,  this time around we are gonna talk about an issue that can put anyone of Skype for good. I am calling this post “Skype Abuse”  for a good reason.

What is the “Skype Abuse ?” – Well glade you asked…….

Well “Skype Abuse” is anything you are not in direct control of. Such as someone trying to sell you products or someone trying to make sexual advances towards you. That you feel is inappropriate or just plan unwanted.

Well there are a lot of issues in relation to the application (Skype). That leads to potential unwanted contact between you and any number of people.

Why dose Skype pose such barriers, Well to start Skype is free provided you call the computer and not the persons cell/mobile phone or land line.  There is also the pin point accuracy of  almost GPS like position of locating the persons you are calling. Forget about your IP address locating where you are @ this address is way closer then a few blocks away….

Now I wish I had the very random and  inappropriate Skype conversation I had with this…I’m guess a very young women named “PARIS” who claimed to be 21 and drop dead gorgeous. She said she was just going to have a shower and if I wanted to watch her or if I wanted to “Cyber”. I am not out of touch I know what “Cyber” means and I also know what people want when the demand your (A/S/L) – (a/s/l) for thous of you that don’t know what the last 2 short forms mean..it breaks down like this A = Age, S = Sex (Male or Female) or (M or F).

I warn people at my work all the time. That you need to watch what you say on line because it can be used against you. So if someone like this PARIS person contacts you and tries to start a conversation of a sexual nature break contact as soon as possible. Make sure to block the  person, but keep their e-mail and nick name they used just in case they contact you again. You will be all the wiser….

So now why the heck did Remy have this as a “Scam Watch” Feature…

Great question….I mainly choose to make this a scam watch feature because of the context. Anything unwanted or of a criminal nature can turn out not only to be a scam. But can also treed on legal ground such as harassment and people need to know what to do about said events.

So that brings me to what should you do ?

1. Check your privacy settings

2. Don’t give out your username to just anybody

3. Never post your username on a public forum or in a comment section

4. Don’t stay logged on for long periods of time

5. Keep a log of all your conversations (it can be very useful in court or as proof of intent)
