MySurvey – Survey Site Review (April 2015)

April 20, 2015

Name: MySurvey

Links: – https://www.mysurvey.ca (Canadian Site)

https://www.mysurvey.com (American Site)

Who Is Eligible To Participate: Canadian Or American Residents Only

Type of Award Or Payment: Paypal, E-gift cards, Cash,  Electronics and Sweepstakes entries (There are some reward options. I have not listed here. Check the website to see all the many reward options.)

Points Normally Earned Per Survey: 0 – 1,000  points

Sign-Up Time: Fairly Short

How Many Survey Invitations Should You Expect Per Week: 0 – 40 survey invites a week

Do They Spam You: No

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5 – If you do the 1,000 point quarterly purchase diary. You’ll be able to cash out very quickly. But if you stick to the way more common weekly batch of survey invites. You’ll be waiting a little bit longer, before you’ll be able to get what you really want. Seeing as the normal point per survey ration is pretty low.

NoScript (2.6.9.21) – Mozilla FireFox Add-on Review

April 18, 2015

NoScript (2.6.9.21)

A. Ease Of Use: 3/5 – Not as easy as it should be.

Often people just end up getting very frustrated with this add-on. Which often results in the person deactivating and or un-installing this add-on. But for the people who stick around long enough. End up having a very powerful tool to help stem the tide of pop-ups , banner ads and other Internet annoyances.

B. Security: 4/5 – NoScript is very helpful in securing your computer from a lot of seen and unseen Internet threats. All across the net during your day to day activities. This add-on will not impede your security. Instead it will boost it greatly, If used correctly.

C. Usefulness: 5/5 – NoScript has enhanced my life on the net. By giving me more options to control my day to day Internet experience.

D. FireFox Slowdown: There is some lag (But will vary based on computer stats and your Internet connection)

E. Computer Slow Down: Some minor lag on older computers.

F. Type Of User I Would Recommend To Use This Add-on: A more advanced Firefox user, would find this add-on way more useful. Then a novice.

Canadian English Dictionary (2.0.11) – Mozilla FireFox Add-on Review

April 11, 2015

Canadian English Dictionary (2.0.11)

A. Ease Of Use: 4.5/5 – Extremely easy to use. Just don’t by mistake add an miss spelled word. Or you’ll have to uninstall the add-on and re-install the add-on. While losing the added words in the process.

B. Security– Absolutely No Impact On FireFox Security Or Your PC Security

C. Usefulness: 4/5 – Just be aware this dictionary is very hit and miss. Some very common words are not even in this dictionary yet.

D. FireFox Slowdown: None

E. Computer Slow Down: None

F. Type Of User Would I Recommend To Use This Add-On: Any Canadian Firefox users would greatly benefit from this Add-on.

AVG Internet Security 2015 (2015.0.5863) – Paidware Review

April 9, 2015

The Rating Scale Breakdown:

  • 0  – 0.5 – Abysmal
  • 1.0 – 1.5 – Terrible
  • 2.0 – 2.5 – Poor
  • 3.0 – 3.5 – Average
  • 4.0 – 4.5 – Great
  • 5.0 – Excellent
  • Undetermined – Too soon to tell or lacking evidence to provide a solid answer
  • Not Tested – Has yet to be requested or there is some limitations to prevent accurate test results

————————–

Price$54.99 USD / $59.99 CAD – For 1 year and 1 PC

A. Installing AVG4.0 Great” – There is no doubt that AVG has improved in this area. But saying that we had very mixed results with some of our team getting AVG Internet Security installed the first go around. While other team members took 3 or 4 times to install AVG Internet Security 2015.

B. Un-installing AVG – 4.5 Great” – AVG Free Anti-Virus 2015 is a lot cleaner un-installer this time around. Much better compared to previous versions of AVG going back 5 or 6 years.

————————–

C. Stability Of Program5.0 Excellent – The UI (User Interface) seems to have been completely fixed in AVG 2014. Along with the jenkey manual update option.

————————–

D. Has AVG Free Been Compromised By Hackers Or Virus4.0Great” – No reports of AVG being compromised.

E. Speed of Scan5.0 Excellent – Very quick on most computers.

F. Updating – 5.0 Excellent – Automatic and manual updating is great. No more issues here compared to AVG 2014 manual update lag spikes.

G. Does AVG Free Do Automatic Updates By Itself Without Any Issue5.0 Excellent – Yes, you can now with, no doubt. But leave the manual update option alone unless you want to invite stability related issues.

H. Internet Browser Cookie Detection Rate And Removal Test2.0 Poor– You are way better off with something like SUPERAntiSpyware or CCleaner that is more dedicated to removal of Internet cookies. AVG Internet cookie detection rate is terrible even with the option active and checked off.

————————–

1. Anti-Virus Detection Rate Test:

1A. Windows XP – 4.0Great

1B. Windows Vista – 4.0Great

1C. Windows 74.0Great

1D. Windows 84.0Great

————————–

2. Residential Shield Test 4.0Great – I still find SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware seems to grab the virus way before AVG does.

————————–

Computers Protection

————————–

3A. Anti-Virus Scanner – 4.0Great” – AVG has finally beaten their just average score. And that should tell you a lot.

3B. Anti-Rootkit Scanner4.0Great” – Great option. Works well.

————————–

Web Browsing Protection

————————–

4A. Link Scanner4.5 Great“ – Not a fan. But it can be very useful to some.

4B. Online Shield2.5Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

————————–

Identity Protection

————————–

5A. Identity Protection 2.0Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

————————–

E-mail Protection

————————–

6A. E-mail Scanner3.0Average” – Utterly baseline and average. I found no use for it.

6B. Anti-Spam3.0 Average” – Utterly baseline and average. Not even worth the setup.

————————–

Firewall

————————–

7. Firewall5.0 Excellent – By no means perfect. But way better then your standalone Windows built in Firewall

————————–

Extra Features

————————–

8. File Shredder4.0Great – I found this addition to be very useful. But lacking the multiple layer shredding options that Spybot – Search & Destroy or even Advance System Care 7 has.

9. PC Analyzer (AKA. PC TuneUp) – 0.5Abysmal“- If you don’t mind that this option just reports errors on your computer and does not even allow you to correct said error. Even once as was the case in the past.

Then your probably are like me and you probably feel this options is both somewhat misleading and out right bait to buy this expensive $40.99 CAD/USD add-on. Then you are probably with me on my conclusion. That it should not be there in the first place. Try giving us features that are fully functional and at least somewhat useful like the shredder option.

10. Tech Buddy Support0.0Abysmal” – This is just a cash grab. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised and overally misleading to the end user.

11. AVG Direct Support0.5Abysmal” – With only a free forum and a phone number to call for support.

You will often find yourself ether being told to go to the free forum or they will recommend you go to further specialized support team via Tech Buddy. Which like I said above is an epic MONEY GRAB. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised as well as overally misleading.

————————–

My Overall Score: 87/125

70 % = B –

————————–

My Final Verdict – AVG Internet Security 2015 takes the drab look of AVG 2014 and cranks it up to 10. With a whole new HD (Hi-Def) UI (User Interface) experience. With the new look comes a more refined and streamlined user experience.

**As per the norm it is highly recommend that you upgrade to the newest version of AVG Internet Security 2015 when available and or prompted. Also important is to update your AVG virus definitions as often as possible. Which in the case of this app there are new virus definition updates nearly everyday.

Web Perspectives – Survey Site Review (April 2015)

April 6, 2015

Name: Web Perspectives

Link: http://www.webperspectives.ca/

Who Is Eligible To Participate: Canadian Residence Only

Type of Award Or Payment: Points / Sweepstakes Entries / E- Gift Cards / Physical Gift Cards / Air Miles / Charity

Points or Cash Normally Earned Per Survey: 0 – 1,000 Points

(You need 1,000 Points/Credits to claim for a $10 CAD value prize or reward)

Sign-Up Time: Pretty Long

How Many Survey Invitations Should You Expect Per Week: 0 – 31

How Long Does It Take To Collect A Reward Or Cash Out: Often less then 1 month for $10 CAD. But as of late it is a lot longer.

Do They Spam You: No

Overall Rating: 3 out of 5 – This survey site has now chosen to have both automatic point rewards added to your points balance and reward points you have to wait for to become available to use. When ever you have qualified and completed said survey(s). Now we are back to having to wait weeks and even months to get your point redemption from past surveys completed.

So I can often redeem my points for a Chapters/Indigo  e- gift cards (Basically a code you can enter and redeem your $10 CAD voucher via the Chapters/Indigo online store.) The main reason I choose that reward is because I don’t have to wait long. In fact you will generally get the e-gift card serial number and pin code with in something like 5 – 15 minutes max. So you are off to the races. Instead of having to wait for an item that has to be shipped to you.
