V. 7.5 – “Mirekusoft Install Monitor“ Review Template
Price: Standard: $11.99 / Premium: $24.99
A. Installation for Install Monitor – 4.5 “Great” – Even though you need to install SQL Server Client to make Install Monitor work, it is quick and easy to do, and doesn’t interfere or clash with any other programs on your system. It took less than 2 minutes for Install Monitor and SQL Server Client to install on my Windows 7 Laptop.
B. Un-installation for Install Monitor – 4.5 “Great” – Uninstalling Install Monitor was quick, easy and trouble free, but it didn’t uninstall SQL Server Client long with it. That program has be uninstalled separately.
C. Stability Of Program – 5.0 “Excellent” – The UI (User Interface) has a beautiful yet classy look, similar to how the Uninstall Programs Options in Windows was modified but remained classy since its Windows XP days. The program itself is very stable and never crashed on me.
D. Uninstalling Programs – 4.0 “Great” – Quick and easy, resulting in programs being removed from the list, but doesn’t remove them from the list if the program is already uninstalled and that program is still listed here.
E. Showing Program Contents – 5.0 “Excellent” – Amazing. Shows exactly where on your PC/Laptop where programs are installed, which will differ depending on which Windows Operating System you are using.
F. Starting Programs – 1.0 “Terrible” – This always failed for me. Keeps saying “Install Monitor could not figure out how to start the program”.
G. Opening Programs in RegEdit – Not Tested – Not confident enough with Registry Editing, and I don’t want either this program or myself, through lack of experience, to screw up my PC/Laptop.
H. Looking At Programs Properties – 5.0 “Excellent” – Opens Up a Propertie Window, just like the Program Properties Window in Windows Vista/7/8/8.1/10.
I. Copy/Paste Contents To Clipboard – 5.0 “Excellent” – Very simple. Literally just copies the text of the program’s name to a clipboard, which you can then paste into other programs such as Word/Notepad/Dreamweaver or even Emails.
J. Search for Programs – 3.5 “Average” – This sections allows you to do either a Quick Search or more detailed Search of programs on your PC/Laptop. There is even a section that allows you to search for programs online by opening up a Google Chrome Browser to look for the results of your programs, but it always crashed for me.
K. Checking The Program Tree – 4.5 “Great” – The Program Tree works as promised, and allows you to see which programs are installed on your PC/Laptop, and which programs you’ve deleted.
L. Scan Programs – Not Tested – Didn’t test this part of the program because even though I have a License Key, it says “This feature is only available in the Premium Version”.
M. Startup Monitor – Not Tested – The Startup Monitor allows users to control what programs start automatically, via the checkboxes listed next to the programs in the selected window, which you can enable or disable at will. Unfortunately, no programs showed up for me to enable or disable, so I couldn’t use it.
N. Options for Disk Defragmenter & Disk Cleanup – Not Tested – These two options just open up the default Windows Programs for users to conduct a Disk Defrag & Disk Cleanup on their PC/Laptop. Nothing special.
O. Install Monitor Options – 4.5 “Great” – The Options Menu is split into three tabs. “General”, “Uninstaller” and “Advanced”. The General Tab includes checkbox options such as show file history, show program updates, show hidden programs, and more. The Uninstaller Tab includes options to exclude certain files/locations from the uninstaller cleanup process. And the Advanced Tab includes a button to reducethe size of the database, repair and fix errors with the database and to rebuild the database.
P. Checking for Updates – 5.0 “Excellent” – There is a Check for Updates Button in the Help Tab once the program has booted up, where it will download and install the latest version of Install Monitor.
Q. Registration & Activation – 4.5 “Great” – The Registration & Activation buttons are also found in the Help Tab. The Activation button requires you to input an activation code, while the Registration button requires you to input other details such as First Name, Last Name, Address, City, State, Zip Code, Phone Number and E-Mail Address.
My Overall Score: 56/65
86.1 % = A
My Final Verdict – Install Monitor 3 is an impressive program when you look at the greater options it provides you with, but if you just want to unistall your programs from Windows, then the standard verison built into the Windows Operating System should be sufficient to complete that task.
Sections of the program such as Opening Programs in RegEdit, Scan Programs and Startup Monitor are nice additions for the more experiences PC owner, but again if you don’t know how to use them, then your best options is to steer clear of them. It’s also a pity that this program doesn’t come with specialised versions of Disk Defragmenter & Disk Cleanup, but instead forces users to use the default versions alreayd installed in Windows.
On top of that, while the Activation section, which required the input of an activation key, was necessary, the addition of the Registration section is totally un-necessary and should be removed. Finally, the searching online for the programs installed on your PC option, as well as starting them from inside this program, didn’t work for me, and need fixing in future versions of Install Monitor.
