EPD 283: Fan Mail Friday (01/01/2016)

Dear (CSW) Team,

I was wondering why you guys don’t cover more Paid versions of your Android apps ? I’m sure your readership would be overjoyed to find out what is worth their time and effort.

Why do we not cover more Paid versions of our Android apps ?

Remy’s Reply: To put it in the simplest terms as possible. It cost money. So we only review apps we happen to purchase out of need or if we get a reg key or download code from a company. Otherwise we don’t charge you guys a fee. So with out charging a fee we can’t go out and actively purchase Android apps.

Matt’s Reply: The simplest explanation comes down to money. It costs a lot of money to buy multiple apps and programs, then review every single one of them for (CSW) and then to go out and buy more to just repeat the process again. Another explanation is that it’s time consuming to write a review on an app, and that time gets more drawn out the bigger the app is, as it allows the user to do more than other apps. The best comparison for that would say reviewing the YouTube App on iOS or Android vs reviewing a video conversation program on a PC.

Along with both of those, reviews don’t need to be too long due to over-using details as it’s a very big demand for it by our readership to deal with, and since we don’t charge you guys a user fee, it means we have to go about other ways to earn the money to pay for these apps and programs, which most of the time isn’t cheap.

Nico’s Reply: For me the biggest drawback with covering apps is how time consuming it, secondary drawbacks with it is that I only use very basic apps, if any at all on my phone. I would though not look away from the possibility if there was a very big demand for it by our readership, anything is possible and nothing is really out of the picture, its just that currently its not to big of a demand for it and we are already working around to clock to deliver what we do.
