Q+A: Is There A Compatibility/Conflict Regarding AVG Free Anti-Virus And Spybot – Search & Destroy ?

Dear Readers,

So I addressed this issue late yesterday with a new post via my AVG ISSUES & FIXES. But since I got so many e-mails regarding this issue I decided to make this a separate post. So this is for all the people that e-mailed me both yesterday and 2day.

Q: Is There A Compatibility/Conflict Regarding AVG Free Anti-Virus And Spybot – Search & Destroy ?

A: Yes, there has been a long standing issue with Spybot – Search & Destroy. But a lot of people including me did not really know why…I know for  a fact it is not Spybot itself. It is “Spybot’s TEA TIMER” add-on now this means instead of me to avoid Spybot all together all it means is you can use Spybot. But instead of CHECKING off the box that says to install the Spybot TEA TIMER you say no and there should no longer have the conflict.

But, that also means if you have Spybot installed on your computer and are not such or are such you have installed the TEAM TIMER. All you have to is just Un-Install Spybot and Re-start your computer. Then RE-Install Spybot and then RE-install AVG Free Anti-Virus. Then any issue you may have had should be gone at least in regards to Spybot TEA TIMER CONFLICT.

I hope this clears things up all the confusion,

I have never installed the Tea Timer part of Spybot and have just contacted AVG as my updates have just now failed… and they told me it is because of Spybot and that I must remove Spybot or any other antivirus to use Free AVG… and that Free AVG can not protect my computer 100% but I still can’t accompany it with any other.

      Dear C Drake,

Since I wrote this post. You are now able to have Spybot or Avira installed along with AVG.

Even AVG admits that fact in some of their past change logs.

Their is a conflict with AVAST thou.

I personally have both AVG Internet Security 2012 and Spybot installed on this desktop. I have AVIRA Free and AVG Free on other computers and it works without a hitch.

You have to understand that most techs. Will say that you should never have more then one security programs installed per PC. But I have found that to be false piece of advice.

      Dear C Drake,

Your more then welcome. I’m happy to help. The AVG waters can be quite hard to ride. If you don’t have a lot of experience with them.
