WordPress (3.2) – Android App Review

November 1, 2014

WordPress (3.2)

Cost Of App: Free (Google Play App Store)

Is there a paid upgrade option ?: No

App Description: (See Below)

WordPress for Android puts the power of publishing in your hands, making it easy to create and consume content. Write, edit, and publish posts to your site, check stats, and get inspired with great posts in the Reader. What’s more? It’s open source.

WordPress for Android supports WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress.org sites running WordPress 3.5 or higher.

Visit the forums to get help with the app: http://android.forums.wordpress.org

Are there in App ads ?: No

A. Ease Of Use: 2/5 – Not as easy as you would expect. From a company based on the promise of ease of use. I highly recommend forgoing the Smart Phone App (Due to the small screen sizes) and downloading it for your tablet instead. I do have the WordPress app on both my Smart Phone and my Tablet. But I only use the Stats button/option and the Comment button (On my Smart Phone). But I tend to use more of the options on my much larger tablet.

But to be 100% honest. Stick with the Non-App version of WordPress. Unless you are really backed up into a corner.

B. Security: No impact to smart phone or tablet security that I am aware of.

C. Usefulness: 2/5 – Barely usable on most smaller Smart Phones. And borderline useful on a tablets. But don’t expect the touch screen keyboard to be as easy as your desktop or laptop keyboards. For the best results keep to the Non-App version of WordPress.  (Please refer back to A. Ease Of Use. For further explanation on the reasons for my score.)

D. Smart phone Slowdown: Some moderate lag, When using certain features.

E. Tablet Slow Down: Some moderate lag, When using certain features.

F. Type Of User I Would Recommend To Use This App: Anyone who has a WordPress blog. Would benefit from having this App on at least one of your Android devices. But don’t expect the same ease of use. That your gonna get from the Non-App version of WordPress.

AVG Internet Security 2015 (2015.0.5557) – Paidware Review

October 30, 2014

The Rating Scale Breakdown:

  • 0  – 0.5 – Abysmal
  • 1.0 – 1.5 – Terrible
  • 2.0 – 2.5 – Poor
  • 3.0 – 3.5 – Average
  • 4.0 – 4.5 – Great
  • 5.0 – Excellent
  • Undetermined – Too soon to tell or lacking evidence to provide a solid answer
  • Not Tested – Has yet to be requested or there is some limitations to prevent accurate test results

————————–

Price$54.99 CAD/USD – For 1 year and 1 PC

A. Installing AVG4.0 Great” – There is no doubt that AVG has improved in this area. But saying that we had very mixed results with some of our team getting AVG Internet Security installed the first go around. While other team members took 3 or 4 times to install AVG Internet Security 2015.

B. Un-installing AVG – 4.5 Great” – AVG Free Anti-Virus 2015 is a lot cleaner un-installer this time around. Much better compared to previous versions of AVG going back 5 or 6 years.

————————–

C. Stability Of Program5.0 Excellent – The UI (User Interface) seems to have been completely fixed in AVG 2014. Along with the jenkey manual update option.

————————–

D. Has AVG Free Been Compromised By Hackers Or Virus4.0Great” – No reports of AVG being compromised.

E. Speed of Scan5.0 Excellent – Very quick on most computers.

F. Updating 5.0 Excellent – Automatic and manual updating is great. No more issues here compared to AVG 2014 manual update lag spikes.

G. Does AVG Free Do Automatic Updates By Itself Without Any Issue5.0 Excellent – Yes, you can now with, no doubt. But leave the manual update option alone unless you want to invite stability related issues.

H. Internet Browser Cookie Detection Rate And Removal Test2.0 Poor- You are way better off with something like SUPERAntiSpyware or CCleaner that is more dedicated to removal of Internet cookies. AVG Internet cookie detection rate is terrible even with the option active and checked off.

————————–

1. Anti-Virus Detection Rate Test:

1A. Windows XP – 4.0Great

1B. Windows Vista – 4.0Great

1C. Windows 74.0Great

1D. Windows 84.0Great

————————–

2. Residential Shield Test - 4.0Great – I still find SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware seems to grab the virus way before AVG does.

————————–

Computers Protection

————————–

3A. Anti-Virus Scanner 4.0Great” – AVG has finally beaten their just average score. And that should tell you a lot.

3B. Anti-Rootkit Scanner4.0Great” – Great option. Works well.

————————–

Web Browsing Protection

————————–

4A. Link Scanner4.5Great – Not a fan. But it can be very useful to some.

4B. Online Shield2.5Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

————————–

Identity Protection

————————–

5A. Identity Protection - 2.0Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

————————–

E-mail Protection

————————–

6A. E-mail Scanner3.0Average” – Utterly baseline and average. I found no use for it.

6B. Anti-Spam3.0 Average” – Utterly baseline and average. Not even worth the setup.

————————–

Firewall

————————–

7. Firewall5.0 Excellent – By no means perfect. But way better then your standalone Windows built in Firewall

————————–

Extra Features

————————–

8. File Shredder4.0Great – I found this addition to be very useful. But lacking the multiple layer shredding options that Spybot – Search & Destroy or even Advance System Care 7 has.

9. Tech Buddy Support0.0Abysmal” – This is just a cash grab. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised and overally misleading to the end user.

10. AVG Direct Support0.5Abysmal” – With only a free forum and a phone number to call for support.

You will often find yourself ether being told to go to the free forum or they will recommend you go to further specialized support team via Tech Buddy. Which like I said above is an epic MONEY GRAB. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised as well as overally misleading.

————————–

My Overall Score: 87/120

72.5 % = B -

————————–

My Final Verdict - AVG Internet Security 2015 takes the drab look of AVG 2014 and cranks it up to 10. With a whole new HD (Hi-Def) UI (User Interface) experience. With the new look comes a more refined and streamlined user experience.

Opinion Outpost – Survey Site Review (October 2014)

October 27, 2014

Name: Opinion Outpost

Link:https://www.opinionoutpost.com (US Site) or http://www.opinionoutpost.ca (Canadian Site)

Who Is Eligible To Participate: US or Canadian Residences Only

Type of Award Or Payment: Cash (points) / Instant Prize / Sweepstakes / Donation To Red Cross / Amazon e – Gift Certificates / Alawar PC Game Online Gift ID / Paypal Payment / Request a Cheque -Only for US residence- /

(10 point = $1.00 USD/CAD)

You must have 50 points or $5.00 CAD/USD to redeem for a $5.00 Amazon E- Gift Certificate

But to redeem for a Paypal payout. You must have at least 100 points or $10.00 CAD/USD in your account to redeem.

Points or Cash Normally Earned Per Survey: 0 – 100 points

Sign-Up Time: Very Lengthy

How Many Survey Invitations Should You Expect Per Week: 1 – 30 (Generally, you’ll see at least one general invite in your inbox everyday. But saying that does not means you’ll get any points.)

How Long Does It Take To Collect A Reward Or Cash Out: About half a months to 1 year. Doing all the surveys sent to you in full. It really does depend on your level of engagement and interest in Opinion Outpost.

(Sometimes it can take a lot longer, Depending on how much you want before you claim your reward or cash out) -Example $50.00 or $100-

Do They Spam You: No

Overall Rating: 4 out of 5Opinion Outpost seems to have smoothed out most of it’s rough edges. Most of the issues that plagued it during my last few review are not completely gone. They are still have been some major hindrances in the overall difficulty of the surveys and qualifying for the rewards. I have often found myself in mid-survey. When I am kicked or glitch-ed out for no reason (What So Ever). I don’t even get the screen. That asks me if I want to try for an Instant Prize/Donate/ or Leave.

That is honestly a really rather sad situation. When we put in the time and effort into said survey. And are receiving ABSOLUTELY nothing in return, other then the run around or just really rather lame excuses why it is our fault. That to me is just unacceptable in every respect.

————————————

Extra Important Information: You must complete your full profile as well as update it at least once a year. To continue to receive your survey invites from Opinion Outpost. If you fail to do so, Opinion Outpost will just stop sending you survey invites to you without any warning at all.

October 25, 2014

BSPlayer FREE (1.19.172)

Cost Of App: Free (Google Play App Store)

Is there a paid upgrade option ?: No. But, I wish there was even if it’s just to remove the ads.

– hardware accelerated video playback – increases speed and reduces battery consumption*
– Support for almost all media files (video and audio player), such as: avi, divx, flv, mkv, mov, mpg, mts, mp4, m4v, rmvb, wmv, 3gp, mp3, flac… and streaming content such as RTMP, RTSP, MMS (tcp, http), HTTP Live stream, HTTP.

This package includes support for ARMv7 with VFP and NEON. For other CPU types please download appropriate package. Application will notify you which package you need.

BSPlayer FREE version is ad-supported video player. BSPlayer full version without advertisements with added functionality is available on Google Play.

Are there in App ads ?: Yes, rather annoying actually.

A. Ease Of Use: 4/5 – Super easy to use and set up. But you most have a media file to view to see the full BSPlayer (GUI) Graphical User Interface.

B. Security: No impact to smart phone or tablet security

C. Usefulness: 5/5 – Extremely useful and very easy to use. It has many useful features that can be used. It is one of the most user friendly and wide ranging use of different types of compatible useful media file types.

D. Smart phone Slowdown: Depends on the Smart phone. But I noticed that there can be some serious lag. This lag can be minimized if your file is on your SDHD card. Instead of streaming it or running it off of a USB device.

E. Tablet Slow Down: No lag, that I noticed.

F. Type Of User I Would Recommend To Use This App: I recommend this app to anyone who wants to play media files. Video files in particular without having to look for a bunch of different codecs or worrying about downloading a virus.

V. 7.0 D“SAS” Professional Review Template + Added Input About Lack Of Phone And Or Live Chat Support For “SAS Pro”

————————–

Price: $29.95 USD/CAD For A 1 year Subscription For Up To 3 PC’s.

Is SUPERAntiSpyware Pro Worth The Price ?: Yes it is. If you want the full protection with the added benefits of Automatic Updating, Scheduling Scanning and Real-Time Protection. Then you will be more then happy with the $29.95 USD/CAD price point.

————————–

A. Installation SUPERAntiSpyware – 5.0 Excellent” – Fast, Safe and Simple

B. Un-installing SUPERAntiSpyware3.5Average – No start menu un-install feature. But you can un-install using the Windows control panel.

————————–

C. Stability Of Program – 5.0 Excellent” – Absolutely no stability issues.

————————–

D. Residential Shield Test - 4.5Great – Very useful and its always great when you can add an extra layer protection to your PC.

DD. Browser Hi-Jack And Registry Protection4.0Great – Great. But there is still no protection for ether Mozilla Firefox or Chrome.

DDD. System Repair Option4.0Great – Used it and it works like a charm. Thou you still should read the descriptions over a few times. Before you decide to use one of the many repair options SUPERAntiSpyware Pro has.

————————–

E. Detection Rate Test:

E1. Windows XP5.0Excellent

E2. Windows Vista5.0Excellent

E3. Windows 7 - 5.0Excellent

E4. Windows 85.0Excellent

————————–

F. Speed of Scan4.5Great – Just as Danny talked about in the freeware version review of SUPERAntiSpyware. It seems instead of decreasing overall scan times. They have actually in some cases increase 10 to 20 minutes overall. But just like Danny said “We will keep a close eye on the next version to see if this is a new trend.” Or just a blip on an otherwise positive trending direction.

FF. Scan Boost5.0Excellent- This option seems to have remained. So much so even my dual core computers have show at least a 10 to 20 mins differences between using regular or “Low Boost” as oppose to “High Boost” scanning option.

FFF. Types Of Different Scans Available - 5.0Excellent- With 5 different types of scans to suite your fancy. You can’t go wrong regardless of your final choice of scan.

G.Update Manager5.0 Excellent – Works like a charm with no lag at all.

H. Scan Logs – 4.0Great- The logs could be quite a bit easier to read. But they are in the same league as most programs in this category.

I. SUPERAntiSpyware Support - 3.0Average – You have their “Free, unlimited 24/7 technical support via e-mail”,  “Customer Support Request Form” or “User Forums

**Yes, people I agree it is SUPER lame that SUPERAntiSpyware Pro. The paid version of SUPERAntiSpyware has no phone support or live chat support.

————————–

My Overall Score: 72.5/80

90.6 % = A +

————————–

My Overall Outlook: SUPERAntiSpyware remains a very easy and safe program to use. SUPERAntiSpyware is truly your one stop shop for Spyware, Adware, Malware and Internet Cookie detection and removal.

————————–

My Final Verdict: I am very happy to to report a dramatic decease in overall scan times. Also important to note is that SUPERAntiSpyware is now sporting a brand spanking new User Interface (UI). Along with overall scanning and detection improvements. Not to mention some unseen and unappreciated under the hood improvements to top it all off.

————————–

Price: Free

A. Installation SUPERAntiSpyware – 5.0 Excellent” – Fast, Safe and Simple

B. Un-installing SUPERAntiSpyware3.5Average – No start menu un-install feature. But you can un-install using your Windows control panel.

————————–

C. Stability Of Program – 5.0 Excellent” – Absolutely no stability Issues

————————–

D. Residential Shield TestN/A – Not available In Free version

DD. Browser Hi-Jack And Registry ProtectionN/A – Not available In Free version

E. Detection Rate Test:

E1. Windows XP5.0Excellent

E2. Windows Vista5.0Excellent

E3. Windows 7 - 5.0Excellent

E4. Windows 85.0Excellent

————————–

F. Speed of Scan4.5Great – It might just be me. But it seems scan times have gone down in this latest version of SUPERAntiSpyware.

FF. Scan Boost5.0Excellent- This option seems to have vastly improved (yet again). So much so even my dual core computers have show at least a 10 to 20 mins differences between using regular or “Low Boost” as oppose to “High Boost” scanning options.

FFF. Types Of Different Scans Available - 5.0Excellent- With 5 different types of scans to suite your fancy. SuperAntiSpyware has all the different types of scans you’ll need. For any job you want to tackle.

G.Update Manager4.5Great – Needs to be updated manually. But works like a charm with no lag at all. As SUPERAntiSpyware has implemented smaller definition updates. There are also a lot more definitions updates available to be manually updated.  Which is great to see.

H. Scan Logs3.5 Average” – The logs could be quite a bit easier to read. But they are in the same league as most programs in this category.

I. SUPERAntiSpyware Support3.5Average – You have their “Customer Support Request Form” or “User Forum” options.

————————–

My Overall Score: 59.5/65

91.5 % = A +

————————–

My Overall Outlook: SUPERAntiSpyware still remains an extremely effective anti-spyware / malware program. (Even in it’s free version package.) You are not choked to death with excessive over the top software limitations, like so many other freeware programs out there. You are still required to update SUPERAntiSpyware manually and you can still use SUPERAntiSpywares 5 different scanning options (minus of course the scan scheduler option).

The only 2 very minor downsides that I can see, are that you have to manually scan and manually update SuperAntiSpyware yourself. (But for most people that is not even a very big deal. Because we already do it anyways with so many other free programs such as Spybot and Malwarebytes.)

————————–

My Final Verdict: I am very happy to say I found quite a few improvements including a whole new User Interface (UI). Backed up with many improvements in scanning, updating and the (SAS) scan logs. Altogether pretty much a well thought out new package for this 6.0 new SUPERAntiSpyware build. All said and done a very good job from the SUPERAntiSpyware team.
