V. 6.5 CIObit Malware Fighter Pro Review Template + Windows 8 Tested

————————–

Price: $19.95 USD/CAD

A. Installation IObit Malware Fighter - 5.0 Excellent– Fast, Safe and Simple. With absolutely no issues in any of my tests

B. Un-installing IObit Malware Fighter – 5.0 Excellent – Fast, Safe and Simple. With absolutely no issues in any of our tests

————————–

C. Stability Of Program – 5.0 Excellent” – The issues I had with the previous version of IObit Malware Fighter has been patched. So we are all good now and 100% stable at least from our tests.

————————–

D. Detection Rate Test:

D1. Windows XP - 4.0 Good

D2. Windows Vista -4.0 Good

D3. Windows 7 -4.0 Good

D4. Windows 8 -4.0 Good

————————–

E. Speed of Scan - 5.0Excellent– Scan times for me came to nearly 1 hour after scanning about 2.5TB of data.

EE. Types Of Different Scans Available - 3.5 Average” – Program features 3 different scan types, which are Smart Scan (scans the most critical parts of the system), Full Scan (scans your entire system, including all of your files/folders), and Custom Scan (allows the user to choose which files, folders or section of the PC you want the program to scan).

F. Update Process -  3.5 Average The Pro version of this program features automatic updates – unlike the freeware version, which only has manual updates.

G. Scan Logs 2.0 Poor – The scan logs are really hard to find. I find the scan logs are super hard to read understand, But unfortunately, what stops this from getting a higher score. Is due to the process log which is rather hard to understand and rather messy, with no real user friendly-way of reading / understanding it.

————————–

1. Start-up Guard – 3.5Average– It’s very basic, and requires no work at all. It has scanned and found nothing.

2. Browser Guard - 3.5Average– Works very well, and has scanned a few items, with no detection’s found so far.

3. Network Guard - 3.5Average– It has found no detection’s on my network. Seems to do it’s job.

4. File Guard - 3.5Average – Works pretty well, and has found no detection’s so far.

5. Cookie Guard - 3.5Average– Like the rest in this section, it is very simple and perfect for the basic PC user, with no detection’s found thus far.

6. Process Guard – 3.5Average” – Also very simple, basic, and requires very little work. It’s found nothing thus far.

7. USB Disk Guard – 4.5Great” – Most of my files are secured on a 500 GB external hard drive or my many 8 to 32 gig USB flash sticks. That is connected to my Windows Vista desktop (On a mass rotation depending on what I am doing) and after scanning through all my USB drives and IObit Malware Fighter found some infected files. That I had put on a random USB stick to test this feature out.  So it does it’s job very well.

8. Malicious Action Guard - 3.5Average– Very basic and requires very little, or no work at all. It has alerted me to a number of registry changes.

————————–

H. Cloud Support - 3.0Average- I don’t think this is a good idea at all. That you can view the number of safe files and threats that IObit has found, and then that information is streamed over the cloud to your IObit Malware Fighter. Plus you can even join in and upload your own scan logs to the cloud on IObit’s servers, which allows everyone and not just IObit, but also other users to see what is safe and a threat via a percentage bar in green and red. I wouldn’t recommend using this feature for the security of your own PC’s sake.

I. IObit Support – 4.0Great- Just like in the Freeware version of the program, you have their “Virtual Technical Support” or “Community Forum“. But with the paid version you also get Online Support.

————————–

My Overall Score: 81/105

77.1 % = B +

————————–

My Final Verdict: IObit Malware Fighter Pro. Is a very simplistic program. Which is actually works in its favour. There are still no real out features (As of yet). IObit Malware Fighter preforms on almost every level as well as it’s competition.

Although there are three different scan levels to this program, it is recommended that you just stick to the Smart Scanning method and allow the program to run in the background while you get on with other daily tasks. All of the IObit Malware Fighter features such as Start-up Guard, Browser Guard, Network Guard, File Guard and Cookie Guard also work well and require no work on your behalf. As long as you keep the program running and definitions updated.

————————–

Important Program Side Note: IObit has decided to add this program to their already full freeware suite. Via their ACTION CENTER. Which you may have already noticed has now fully swallowed all but one of their freeware programs. And now has become their new UI (User Interface) for most IObit programs. Other then IObit Uninstaller. To tell you I am unhappy with this new development is an epic understatement. I hate having programs I want mate with programs, I don’t want. Just for the fact that they are made by the same company.

I much rather not have Advanced System Care Free at all on my computer. Instead I am forced by their new freeware suite. That sort of beats you over the head to have it installed and updated or face a more then annoying LARGE RED error message notice to “FIX ALL PROBLEMS/ERRORS“.

E. Speed of Scan5.0 Excellent – Scan times run on average anywhere from under 10 minutes with quick scan. And just under 1hr for a full system scan.

EE. Types Of Different Scans Available - 3.5 Average” – There are 3 different scan types. But they are the same scan types as pretty much every other program in this category.(Smart Scan , Full Scan, Custom Scan)

F. Update Process3.5 Average” – Needs to be manually updated.

G. Scan Logs2.0 Poor – The scan logs are really hard to find period. (Other then that minor issue). I find the scan logs are super hard to read understand, But unfortunately, what stops this from getting a higher score. Is due to the process log which is rather hard to understand and rather messy, with no real user friendly-way of reading / understanding it.

I. IObit Support3.0 Average“- You have their “Virtual Technical Support” or “Community Forum

————————–

My Overall Score: 61.5/85

72.3 % = B

————————–

My Final Verdict: IObit Malware Fighter Free. Is a very basic  program with no real stand out features. That I can speak of. IObit Malware Fighter preforms on almost every level as well as it’s competition.

But what Malware Fighter does have are some extra features over other freeware programs of this type. IObit Malware Fighter has 5 active features / guards (Start-up Guard, Browser Guard, Network Guard , File Guard and Cookie Guard) That are available and active even in its freeware version package.

That alone makes IObit Malware Fighter better off features wise, then say Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free. Which only really has manual update and 3 manual scan options.

But not better off then say SuperAntiSpyware Free or Spybot – Search & Destroy Free.

————————–

Important Program Side Note: IObit has decided to add this program to their already full freeware suite. Via their ACTION CENTER. Which you may have already noticed has now fully swallowed all but one of their freeware programs. And now has become their new UI (User Interface) for most IObit programs. How Long Does It Take To Collect A Reward Or Cash Out: About half a months to 1 year. Doing all the surveys sent to you in full. It really does depend on your level of engagement and interest in Opinion Outpost.

(Sometimes it can take a lot longer, Depending on how much you want before you claim your reward or cash out) -Example $50.00 or $100-

Do They Spam You: No

Overall Rating: 3 out of 5Opinion Outpost seems to have smoothed out most of it’s rough edges. Most of the issues that plagued it during my last few review are not completely gone. They are still  have been some major hindrances in the overall difficulty of the surveys and qualifying for the rewards. I have often found myself in mid-survey. When I am kicked or glitch-ed out for no reason (What So Ever). I don’t even get the screen. That asks me if I want to try for an Instant Prize/Donate/ or Leave.

That is honestly a really rather sad situation. When we put in the time and effort into said survey. And are receiving ABSOLUTELY nothing in return, other then the run around or just really rather lame excuses why it is our fault. That to me is just unacceptable in every respect.

————————————

Extra Important Information: You must complete your full profile as well as update it at least once a year. To continue to receive your survey invites from Opinion Outpost. If you fail to do so, Opinion Outpost will just stop sending you survey invites to you without any warning at all.

Twitter (5.4.0) – Android App Review

April 12, 2014

Twitter (5.4.0)

Cost Of App: Free (Google Play App Store)

Is there a paid upgrade option ?: No

App Description: (See Below)

Twitter is a free app that lets you connect with people, express yourself, and discover more about all the things you love.

See what your favorite celebs and athletes are chatting about. Be the first to hear breaking news. Catch a glimpse behind the scenes at the Oscars, concerts, sporting events, and more.

Then join the conversation: Tweet your own text, photos, and video to your followers — and maybe make a few fans along the way.

Get inspired. Be social. Even send private messages to friends. All in real time, as big (and little) things happen, from anywhere you happen to be.

Are there in App ads ?: No

A. Ease Of Use: 4/5 – Super easy to use and set up. But (GUI) Graphical User Interface could use some tweaking. As it is overwhelming at times. A larger screen would help but not by much.

B. Security: No impact to smart phone or tablet security

C. Usefulness: 5/5 – Extremely useful and very easy to use. It has many useful features. All be it sometimes very hard to find all your options.

D. Smart phone Slowdown: Depends on the Smart phone. But I noticed that there can be some serious lag.

E. Tablet Slow Down: No lag, that I noticed.

F. Type Of User I Would Recommend To Use This App: I would recommend this app to anyone who wants to stay connected remotely to Twitter. This gets a MEGA recommend if you are the type of person not using their Desktop or Laptop as much anymore. Just make sure you lock up you tablet or Smart Phone with a good strong password.

A. Installation CCleaner5.0 Excellent” – Fast, Safe and Simple

B. Un-installing CCleaner5.0 Excellent” – Fast, Safe and Simple

————————–

C. Stability Of Program5.0 Excellent” – Absolutely no stability Issues

————————–

D. Cleaner

D1. Windows Cleaner4.5Great” – Works very well. Just 1 really important note a warning if you will. You will lose all your data on the items you have decided to check off. So check your list of “Windows Features” you are gonna clean first.

D2. Application Cleaner4.5Great” – Works very well. Just 1 really important note a warning if you will. You will lose all your data on the items you have decided to check off. So check your list of “Windows Applications” you are gonna clean first.

E. Cleaner Quality Test:

E1. Windows XP5.0Excellent

E2. Windows Vista5.0Excellent

E3. Windows 7 - 5.0Excellent

E4. Windows 85.0Excellent

————————–

F. Registry

————————–

G. Speed of Analyze5.0Excellent – Again, it will be over in about 1 or 2 minutes at max. Unless you are running a really old rig. Then even then it is faster then most paid programs out there.

GG. Speed of Repair4.5Great – It will be over quite quickly you just maybe surprised. But be warned if you decide not to back-up your registry. Before fixing your registry ERROR(S) you’ll be doing it at your own risk / peril. I say that just to warn people. I have never had an issue and I have been using this program for about 10 + years now. Perhaps maybe even longer.

————————–

H. Registry Cleaner Quality Test:

H1. Windows XP5.0Excellent

H2. Windows Vista5.0Excellent

H3. Windows 7 - 5.0Excellent

H4. Windows 85.0Excellent

————————–

I. Tools

————————–

I1. Un-installer3.0 Average” – This option is shaky at best. This option often leaves a mess in its wake. But be warned not all of said un-installed programs components / files maybe completely gone. I often have to run a separate PC utility like Auslogic BoostSpeed or Registry Mechanic (Both are Paidware). If you want to go freeware you can give IObit Advanced System Cleaner 7. But be careful I have had very mixed results with it.

I2. Start-up - 4.5Great- This option is the king of killing start-up programs and process. But there are some that programs for what ever reason fail to yield to this CCleaner option. Be warned you can cause your computer damage if you don’t allow certain programs to run on boot up. You may also cause MAJOR security holes in your PC.

I3. System Restore3.0Average” – It would be awesome if it worked every time. But sadly I only use this option as the last last resort.

I4. Drive WiperNot Tested - I’ve never tried it and don’t plan too anytime soon. Sorry, if you want to give this option a go. By all means let me know the fallout. I’d be more then happy to post your score on the next review we do.

————————–

J. Options

————————–

J1. Settings4.5Great” – Simple and to the point exactly what you want. You can even undo stuff you had to choose when you originally installed Cleaner.

J2. Cookies4.0Great” – this option is only great if you know what you are doing. and my friend this will take a wee bit of Computer Knowledge and a tad bit of Internet Savvy to pull of exactly what you want. And even then you may not get the outcome you want on the first or second go at it.

J3. IncludeNot Tested – I have never used this option and have really no clue what it does. Beyond the very simplistic description it offers above.

J4. ExcludeNot Tested – Same as above. I have never used this option and have really no clue what it does. Beyond the very simplistic description it offers above.

J5. AdvancedNot Tested – Same as above. But it appears simple enough to navigate.

————————–

K. Updating4.0Great – Needs to be updated manually. Sometimes your promoted when there is a new version of CCleaner out. And other times your not. I’m not really sure why that is. I have the option checked off.

L. CCleaner SupportNot Tested – Never needed it before and I doubt I will in the future. But I imagine if it’s anything like CCleaner itself. It would be pretty awesome.

————————–

My Overall Score: 96.5/105

91.9 % = A +

————————–

My Final Verdict -Part 1-: CCleaner still remains top of it’s class when it comes to the freeware model of PC Utility programs. They really don’t make freeware programs like this very often. I have never really had any real issues with CCleaner. Other then maybe it tries to do too much and it falls flat or stretches itself too thin.

Perfect examples of this are the uninstaller and restore features. Why not drop them and add that vim and vinegar in improving other aspects of CCleaner Free.

————————–

My Final Verdict -Part 2-: I have to admit at first glance CCleaner looks too good to be true in it’s freeware package. Even my score is an almost perfect, which absolutely floors me every time. As I don’t normal see that type of score or quality in most programs. Let alone a freeware version of a PC Utility.

I honestly wonder if there will be a time where there will be a small cost to even the basic CCleaner version. I hope not. But I do believe it is possible sat some point down the line. That or they could strip the program down to be even more basic.

µTorrent (3.4.1) – Freeware Review

April 9, 2014

Con’s

- Sometimes good Torrents are hard to find

- Sometimes it can take hours, days, weeks to download a file and or files. All will depend on your internet connection speed, the size of the file and the souring of the torrent and or torrents you are using.

- There can be some serious virus issues. You may come across at some point.

- Depending on your Internet connection. You can use all your bandwidth for the whole house or business network without evening knowing it. (But there is a tracking option with in the options to prevent that. But I find people tend not to use it or don’t use it correctly.)

- Some options require you to be rather Computer/Internet Savvy person.

- Setting up µTorrent for optimal performance can take some trial and error.

- You can encounter “Disk Overloaded 100% glitch“. This is where you download will bottom out and may even stop altogether. This can take anywhere from minutes to many hours to get a solid download rate going again.

- You can encounter “Disk Flushing glitch“. This is where you download will stop with between 0.01% to 5% download not completed. This will require you to stop the torrent then remove the torrent. Then close down µTorrent. Then re-start µTorrent. Now drag and drop the torrent file again and let it re-check what you haev actually downloaded.  After that then the download should show the correct % complete.

- They have added a ton of new LARGE ads. All I can say is they are one hell of an eye soar. (Then again it could just be my super short attention span.)

- Also you may notice some new annoying UI (User Interface) changes. Again, I found them annoying and not at all needed. But by no means a deal breaker. Nor does it merit a lower score.

Pro’s

- Free

- Simple to use

- There is a ton of customization options wise

-  App add-ons

- Very easy to set download caps and bandwidth caps. So you don’t go over by accident.

- Very easy to use Internet connection setup guide

- Files are generally pretty darn safe. Provided you know what files types you are looking for and or planning to download. (And with the Torrents with positive scores also known as a Green score of anywhere between a 1-10. 10 being the best and 1 being just fine or ok)

- Way better then the bulk of their competition (Even better computer foot print wise VS. Bit-torrent)

- Very slick/clean interface

- Very light on resources (Both Ram and CPU)

- Provided you use a good torrent search sites, you can get some great file sourcing.

- You can find some pretty rare files, movies, music and or books

- Very decent download speeds for most torrents

- It’s very easy to change your ports on the fly

- Can download any type of files you could ever possibly want. (Of course with some exceptions)

- Can download multiple files at a time

- Can download huge files of several 100 gigs with ease.

- Has bandwidth and sourcing encryption

—————————————————————

My Overall Score is a 4 out of 5 – Provided you are using a good torrent source such as http://torrentz.eu/. You should be able to find pretty much anything you could ever want. But be very careful some Torrents can have some very nasty virus hidden inside them. So please use the torrent Positive/Negative numbering rules.  So if there is no score or a 0 out of 10 or negative number rating score. Also known as a RED score posted for that torrent. Then whatever you do don’t download that torrent. If you do decide to download it anyways. You would likely be asking for a possible virus issues or other possible negative outcomes.

So people, please be smart and use your head and use the scoring system of 1-10 Green or 0-10 Red. Associated with each torrent before you download it.

On the other hand if there is a positive score of 1 to 10 (A Green 10 being the best and a Green 1 being the least. There can also be a neutral 0 score. That will appear in black or bold.) Also known as a Green or Positive Score). Then you should be good.

ImTranslator (7.8) – Mozilla FireFox Add-on Review

April 5, 2014

ImTranslator (7.8)

A. Ease Of Use: 4/5 – A very easy and straight forward add-on, but there are still some settings that can get a bit tedious to newer Firefox users.

B. Security: Not Applicable To This Add-on

C. Usefulness: 4/5 – Both my life as a member of the (CSW) team and my life on the net would be a lot harder without this add-on. If you ever wondered how to say something in another language, or even if you just ran into a site and or blog that is not in your own native tongue / language.

D. FireFox Slowdown: At times this add-on can really slow down your browser.

E. Computer Slow Down: PC slowdown can occur on the very rare occasion. Often it will occur when you leave this add-on by accident with in your FireFox browser Window, or if you have been in a FireFox session for quite a while. And then you decide you want to translate a large swath of text.

F. Type Of User I Would Recommend To Use This Add-on: Any level of Firefox user could benefit from this add-on.

Very Important Firefox Add-on Compatibility Note: The add-on NoScript (NoScript Review Link) will cause this add-on to crash or not work at all. You will need to add  imtranslator.net to your NoScript White list, which can be found in your Firefox add-ons. Go to the NoScript add-on. Highlight it, then go to options. AVG Internet Security 2014 (2014.0.4355) – Paidware Review

April 3, 2014

The Rating Scale Breakdown:

  • 0  – 0.5 – Abysmal
  • 1.0 – 1.5 – Terrible
  • 2.0 – 2.5 – Poor
  • 3.0 – 3.5 – Average
  • 4.0 – 4.5 – Great
  • 5.0 – Excellent
  • Undetermined – Too soon to tell or lacking evidence to provide a solid answer
  • Not Tested – Has yet to be requested or there is some limitations to prevent accurate test results

————————–

Price$54.99 CAD/USD – For 1 year and 1 PC

A. Installation AVG4.5 Great” – There is no doubt that AVG has improved in this area 10 fold. I personally thank G-d that this time around it did not take more then once to install AVG Anti-Virus 2014. As oppose to AVG Anti-Virus 2013 that took more then a dozen times to install it on my PC’s. So well done AVG for getting it right this time. Better late then never.

B. Un-installing AVG3.5Average” – AVG Free Anti-Virus 2014 is very sloppy un-installer. But that is not a surprise to me. So has every other previous AVG version going back 5 or 6 years.

————————–

C. Stability Of Program5.0 Excellent – The UI (User Interface) seems to have been completely fixed in AVG 2014. Along with the jenkey manual update option.

————————–

D. Has AVG Free Been Compromised By Hackers Or Virus4.0Great” – No reports of AVG being compromised.

E. Speed of Scan5.0 Excellent – Very quick on most computers.

F. Updating - 4.0Great” – Automatic updating is fine. But if you want to manually update your AVG. Expect some epic slowness. I’m still not sure why. I have often run into times where it will stall on 30%, or 50% and it seem like forever before you get the 100% completed notice.

G. Does AVG Free Do Automatic Updates By Itself Without Any Issue5.0 Excellent – Yes, you can now with, no doubt. But leave the manual update option alone unless you want to invite stability related issues.

H. Internet Browser Cookie Detection Rate And Removal Test2.0 Poor- You are way better off with something like SUPERAntiSpyware or CCleaner that is more dedicated to removal of Internet cookies. AVG Internet cookie detection rate is terrible even with the option active and checked off.

————————–

1. Anti-Virus Detection Rate Test:

1A. Windows XP4.0Great

1B. Windows Vista4.0Great

1C. Windows 74.0Great

1D. Windows 84.0Great

————————–

2. Residential Shield Test - 3.5Average – I still find AVAST and AVIRA seems to grab the virus way before AVG does.

————————–

Computers Protection

————————–

3A. Anti-Virus Scanner 4.0Great” – AVG has finally beaten their just average score. And that should tell you a lot.

3B. Anti-Rootkit Scanner4.0Great” – Great option. Works well.

————————–

Web Browsing Protection

————————–

4A. Link Scanner4.5Great – Not a fan. But it can be very useful to some.

4B. Online Shield2.5Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

————————–

Identity Protection

————————–

5A. Identity Protection - 2.0Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

5B. Identity Alert – This feature appears to need a further upgrade. Beyond your main purchase of AVG Internet Security 2013.

————————–

E-mail Protection

————————–

6A. E-mail Scanner3.0Average” – Utterly baseline and average. I found no use for it.

6B. Anti-Spam3.0 Average” – Utterly baseline and average. Not even worth the setup.

————————–

Firewall

————————–

7. Firewall5.0 Excellent – By no means perfect. But way better then your standalone Windows built in Firewall

————————–

Extra Features

————————–

8. PC Analyzer (AKA. Fix Performance) – 0.5Abysmal“- If you don’t mind that you only can fix your errors for free once then great. But if you are like me and you probably feel this options is both somewhat misleading and out right bait to buy this extremely expensive add-on. Then you are probably with me on my conclusion.

9. Mobile ProtectionN/A – This option is pretty much just a bullet point reminder. As you can download the AVG Free Smart Phone or Tablet app from the Google Play Store. Again let me make it clear even thou you have paid for AVG Internet Security 2013. You don’t get AVG Pro Smart Phone app.

10. File Shredder3.5 Average – I found this addition to be very useful. But lacking what Spybot – Search & Destroy or even Advance System Care 6. Advanced File shredder options.

11. Tech Buddy Support0.0Abysmal” – This is just a money grab. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised and very overall misleading.

12. AVG Direct Support0.5Abysmal” – With only a free forum and a phone number to call for support.

You will often find yourself ether being told to go to the free forum or they will recommend you go to further specialized support via Tech Buddy. Which like I said above is a MONEY GRAB. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised and very overall misleading.

————————–

My Overall Score: 85/125

68.4 % = C +

————————–

My Final Verdict - AVG Internet Security 2013 takes what it once was and flips it on its heads. Then presents itself as a new more user friendly version of its past iterations. “Well sorry guys, That won’t fly with me.” But you got to love the File shredder even thou it is so very basic.

This version of AVG and I’m talking about all AVG 2013 versions. Are clearly tailored first to Windows 8 and then to Windows 7. If you don’t have ether. Then you maybe as disappointed as I was. When I first upgraded from AVG Internet Security 2012.
