J. AVG SupportNot Tested

————————–

My Overall Score: 79.5/100

84.5 % = A -

————————–

My Final Verdict -Part 1- The main difference with AVG Anti-Virus FREE Smart Phone App. Is that is it split into 4 different layers of protection.

The 1st layer would be your - Protection

1. Apps -This is where the scanner will pick up any rouge apps. That are not certified via the (Google Play App Store).

2. Content – This is where you’ll find out if you downloaded or transferred a virus on to your smart phone. Via Wi-Fi, USB or Bluetooth.

3. Settings – Is also very important and often overlooked when people first get their phone. Often there are settings with in setting that make your smart phone less then secure. Such as letting unknown or un-certified apps to collect your private data, Or transmitting your location without your permission (Also known as Geo-tagging).

The 2nd layer is the AVG Anti-Virus FREE Smart Phone App - Performance

1. Task Killer

2. Battery Consumption

4. Wipe Personal Data

5. Data Usage

6. Storage Usage

The 3rd layer is the AVG Anti-Virus FREE Smart Phone App - Anti-Theft

1. Device Locater

The 4th layer is the AVG Anti-Virus FREE Smart Phone App - Privacy

1. App Locker – Only 10 day limited trial

2. App Backup – Only 10 day limited trail

3. Wipe Device

4. Wipe SD Card

My Final Verdict -Part 2- Now performance wise. This is no watered down version of the full blow PC version of AVG. Yes, there are less options and scanning is a little slower. Due to mobile phone limitations. But other then that you get what you would expect. A rather good free Anti-Virus program.

**As per the norm it is highly recommend that you upgrade to the newest version of AVG Anti-Virus FREE Smart Phone App when available. Also important is to update your AVG virus definitions as often as possible. Which in the case of this App there are new virus definition updates (Nearly) everyday.

————————–

I1. Uninstaller3.0 Average” – This option is shaky at best. This option often leaves a mess in its wake. Be warned not all of said uninstalled programs maybe gone.

I2. Startup - 4.5Great- This option is the king of killing start-up programs and process. But there are some that programs for what ever reason fail to yield to this CCleaner option. Be warned you can cause your computer damage if you don’t allow certain programs to run on boot up. You may also cause MAJOR security holes in your PC.

I3. System Restore3.0Average” – It would be awesome if it worked every time. But sadly I only use this option as the last last resort.

I4. Drive WiperNot Tested - I’ve never tried it and don’t plan too anytime soon. Sorry, if you want to give this option a go. By all means let me know the fallout. I’d be more then happy to post your score on the next review we do.

J. Options

————————–

J1. Settings4.5Great” – Simple and to the point exactly what you want. You can even undo stuff you had to choose when you originally installed Cleaner.

J2. Cookies4.0Great” – this option is only great if you know what you are doing. and my friend this will take a wee bit of Computer Knowledge and a tad bit of Internet Savvy to pull of exactly what you want. And even then you may not get the outcome you want on the first or second go at it.

J3. IncludeNot Tested – I have never used this option and have really no clue what it does. Beyond the very simplistic description it offers above.

J4. ExcludeNot Tested – Same as above. I have never used this option and have really no clue what it does. Beyond the very simplistic description it offers above.

J5. AdvancedNot Tested – Same as above. But it appears simple enough to navigate.

————————–

K. Updating4.0Great – Needs to be updated manually. Sometimes your promoted when there is a new version of CCleaner out. And other times your not. I’m not really sure why that is. I have the option checked off.

L. CCleaner SupportNot Tested – Never needed it before and I doubt I will in the future. But I imagine if it’s anything like CCleaner itself. It would be pretty awesome.

————————–

My Overall Score: 95.5/105

90.9 % = A +

————————–

My Final Verdict -Part 1-: CCleaner still remains top of it’s class when it comes to the freeware model of PC Utility programs. They really don’t make freeware programs like this very often. I don’t really have any issue with CCleaner. Other then maybe it tries to do to much and it falls flat or stretches itself too thin.

Perfect examples of this are the uninstaller and restore feature. Why not drop them and add that vim and vinegar in improving other aspects of CCleaner Free.

————————–

My Final Verdict -Part 2-: I have to admit at first glance CCleaner looks too good to be true. Even my score is an almost perfect score, absolutely floors me. As I don’t normal see that type of score or quality in most programs. Let alone a freeware version of a PC Utility.

PS: I did want to mention there was a Graphical Update to CCleaner. Both the UI (User Interface) and the icon or CCleaner logo seems to have been smoothed over. But to me it looks almost as if they decided to add a slight blur effect to their main UI. It just does not look as clear to me as in past version of CCleaner. It sure as heck does not come off as more smooth or streamlined.

My Final Verdict -Part 2- Now performance wise. This is no watered down version of the full blow PC version. Yes, there are less options and scanning is a little slower. Due to mobile phone and tablet limitations. But other then that you get what you would expect. A rather good free Anti-Virus program.

**As per the norm it is highly recommend that you upgrade to the newest version of AVG Anti-Virus FREE for Android when available. Also important is to update your AVG virus definitions as often as possible. Which in the case of this App there are new virus definition updates everyday.

AVG Internst Security 2013 (2013.0.2897) – Review

February 14, 2013

The Rating Scale Breakdown:

  • 0  – 0.5 – Abysmal
  • 1.0 – 1.5 – Terrible
  • 2.0 – 2.5 – Poor
  • 3.0 – 3.5 – Average
  • 4.0 – 4.5 – Great
  • 5.0 – Excellent

  • Not Tested – Has yet to be requested or there is some limitations to prevent accurate test results

————————–

Price: $49.49 CAD/USD For 1 year and 1 PC

A. Installation AVG - 2.5Poor – This aspect of AVG has almost completely collapsed, in on itself. I am very sad to report that all thou AVG Free Anti-Virus 2013 is way better in the installation department. Then AVG Internet Security 2013.  Which without any reservations is an huge epic fail. On most systems.

B. Uninstalling AVG2.0Poor – AVG Internet Security 2013 is very sloppy uninstaller.

————————–

C. Stability Of Program3.5 Average” – AVG free is way better off then AVG Internet Security 2013 with respect to both stability and UI (User Interface) glitch-y-ness

————————–

D. Has AVG Free Been Compromised By Hackers Or Virus2.0 Poor” – Many issues reported. But mostly on older operating systems such as XP and Vista. .

E. Speed of Scan5.0 Excellent – Very quick on most computers.

F. Updating - 3.5Average” – Automatic updating is fine. But if you want to mainly update your AVG. Your in for some headaches. Crashes , Glitches , Stalls you name it. I’ve probably run into it or had it reported to me.

G. Does AVG Free Do Automatic Updates By Itself Without Any Issue5.0 Excellent – Yes, you can now with, no doubt. But leave the manual update option alone unless you want to invite stability related issues.

H. Internet Browser Cookie Detection Rate And Removal Test2.0 Poor- You are way better off with something like SUPERAntiSpyware or CCleaner that is more dedicated to removal of Internet cookies. AVG Internet cookie detection rate is terrible even with the option active and checked off.

1. Anti-Virus Detection Rate Test:

1A. Windows XP2.0Poor

1B. Windows Vista2.0Poor

1C. Windows 7 -3.0Average

1D. Windows 84.0Great

————————–

2. Residential Shield Test - 3.0Average – I still find AVIRA and AVAST seems to grab the virus way before AVG does.

————————–

Computers Protection

————————–

3A. Anti-Virus Scanner - 3.0Average” – AVG is barely scores an average in this respect.

3B. Anti-Rootkit Scanner3.5Average” – Nothing special here. But much better of a scanner then the main Anti-Virus Scanner.

————————–

Web Browsing Protection

————————–

4A. Link Scanner4.5Great – Not a fan. But it can be very very useful to some.

4B. Online Shield2.0Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

————————–

Identity Protection

————————–

5A. Identity Protection - 2.0Poor” – Completely in-effective and worthless.

5B. Identity Alert – This feature appears to need a further upgrade. Beyond your main purchase of AVG Internet Security 2013.

————————–

E-mail Protection

————————–

6A. E-mail Scanner3.0Average” – Utterly baseline and average. I found no use for it.

6B. Anti-Spam3.0 Average” – Utterly baseline and average. Not even worth the setup.

————————–

Firewall

————————–

7. Firewall4.0Great” – By no means perfect. But way better then your standalone Windows built in Firewall

————————–

Extra Features

————————–

8. PC Analyzer (AKA. Fix Performance) – 0.5Abysmal“- If you don’t mind that you only can fix your errors for free once then great. But if you are like me and you probably feel this options is both somewhat misleading and out right bait to buy this extremely expensive add-on. Then you are probably with me on my conclusion.

9. Mobile ProtectionN/A – This option is pretty much just a bullet point reminder. As you can download the AVG Free Smart Phone app from the Google Play Store. Again let me make it clear even thou you have paid for AVG Internet Security 2013. You don’t get AVG Pro Smart Phone app.

10. Speed Test5.0Excellent- I found this addition to be very useful and very accurate as well. If only all speed tests apps/programs and or sites were this worry free.

11. Tech Buddy Support0.0Abysmal” – This is just a money grab. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised and very overall misleading.

12. AVG Direct Support0.5Abysmal” – With only a free forum and a phone number to call for support.

You will often find yourself ether being told to go to the free forum or they will recommend you go to further specialized support via Tech Buddy. Which like I said above is a MONEY GRAB. Completely worthless as well as falsely advertised and very overall misleading.

————————–

My Overall Score: 68/125

54.4 % = D

————————–

My Final Verdict - AVG Internet Security 2013 takes what it once was and flips it on its heads. Then presents itself as a new more user friendly version of its past iterations. “Well sorry guys, That won’t fly with me.”

This version of AVG and I’m talking about all AVG 2013 versions. Are clearly tailored first to Windows 8 and then to Windows 7. If you don’t have ether. Then you should give this 2013 version of AVG a pass.

————————–

V. 5.3 A“CCleaner” Freeware Review Template

————————–

Price: Free

A. Installation CCleaner5.0 Excellent” – Fast, Safe and Simple

B. Un-installing CCleaner5.0 Excellent” – Fast, Safe and Simple

————————–

C. Stability Of Program5.0 Excellent” – Absolutely no stability Issues

————————–

D. Cleaner

D1. Windows Cleaner4.5Great – Works very well. Just one point of warning. You will lose all your data on the items you have decided to check off. So check your list of “Windows Features” you are gonna clean first.

D2. Application Cleaner4.5Great – Works very well. Just one point of warning. You will lose all your data on the items you have decided to check off. So check your list of “Windows Applications” you are gonna clean first.

————————–

E. Cleaner Quality Test:

E1. Windows XP5.0Excellent

E2. Windows Vista5.0Excellent

E3. Windows 7 - 5.0Excellent

E4. Windows 85.0Excellent

————————–

F. Registry

————————–

G. Speed of Analyze5.0Excellent – Again, it will be over in about a 1 or 2 minutes at max. Unless you are running a really old rig. Then even then it is faster then most paid programs.

GG. Speed of Repair4.5Great – It will be over real quick. But be warned if you decide not to back-up your registry. Before fixing your registry you are doing it at your own risk. I say that just to warn people. I have never had in issue and I have been using this program for perhaps 10 + years (Maybe even more).

————————–

H. Registry Cleaner Quality Test:

H1. Windows XP5.0Excellent

H2. Windows Vista5.0Excellent

H3. Windows 7 - 5.0Excellent

H4. Windows 84.0Great

————————–

I. Tools

————————–

I1. Uninstaller3.0 Average” – This option is shaky at best. This option often leaves a mess in its wake. Be warned not all of said uninstalled program maybe gone.

————————–

J. Options

————————–

They really don’t make freeware programs like this. I don’t really have any issue with CCleaner. Other then maybe it tries to do to much and it falls flat or stretches itself to thin.

Perfect examples of this are the uninstaller and restore feature. Why not drop them and add that vim and vinegar in improving other aspects of CCleaner Free.

————————–

My Final Verdict -Part 2-: I have to admit at first glance CCleaner looks too good to be true. Even my score an almost perfect absolutely floors me. As I don’t normal see that type of score or quality in any program let alone a freeware version of a PC Utility.

The best way for me to end this review is by saying. There is a reason why we got so many e-mails asking us to review CCleaner. But there is also credience in why CClear is in the top 5 most downloaded programs on http://download.cnet.com/windows/

IObit Malware Fighter (1.7.0.0) Pro – Full Review

  • 2.0 – 2.5 – Poor
  • 3.0 – 3.5 - Average

  • N/A – Not Available and or Not Applicable to this program

————————–

V. 3.2 EIObit Malware Fighter Pro Review Template + Windows 8 Tested

————————–

Price: $19.95 USD

A. Installation IObit Malware Fighter - 5.0 Excellent– Fast, Safe and Simple. With absolutely no issues in any of my tests

B. Un-installing IObit Malware Fighter – 5.0 Excellent – Fast, Safe and Simple. With absolutely no issues in any of our tests

————————–

C. Stability Of Program – 5.0 Excellent” – The issues I had with the previous version of IObit Malware Fighter has been patched. So we are all good now and 100% stable at least from our tests.

————————–

D. Detection Rate Test:

D1. Windows XP - 3.5 Average

D2. Windows Vista - 3.5 Average

D3. Windows 7 - 3.5Average

D4. Windows 8 - 3.5Average

————————–

E. Speed of Scan - 5.0Excellent– Scan times for me ran to nearly two hours after scanning about 2.5TB of data.

EE. Types Of Different Scans Available - 3.5Average– Program features 3 different scan types, which are Smart Scan (scans the most critical parts of the system), Full Scan (scans your entire system, including all of your files/folders), and Custom Scan (allows the user to choose which files, folders or section of the PC you want the program to scan).

F. Update Process - 2.0Poor” – The Pro version of this program features automatic updates – unlike the freeware version, which only has manual updates – But what gets me is the fact that there are only a max of 3 or 4 core definition updates a week. That is just plain unacceptable to me for any type of security software.

G. Scan Logs 4.0 “Great” The scan logs in the pro version are just as easy to find and navigate as in the free version, as they can be found via an easy to see button, and I found them really easy to read and understand, but unfortunately – which stops this getting a perfect 5.0 – I found the process log rather hard to understand and rather messy, with no real user friendly-way of understanding them..

————————–

1. Start-up Guard – 3.5Average– It’s very basic, and requires no work at all. It has scanned and found nothing.

2. Browser Guard - 3.5Average– Works very well, and has scanned a few items, with no detection’s found so far.

3. Network Guard - 3.0Average– It has found no detection’s on my network. Seems to do it’s job.

4. File Guard - 3.0Average – Works pretty well, and has found no detection’s so far.

5. Cookie Guard - 3.0Average– Like the rest in this section, it is very simple and perfect for the basic PC user, with no detection’s found thus far.

6. Process Guard – 3.5Average” – Also very simple, basic, and requires very little work. It’s found nothing thus far.

7. USB Disk Guard – 4.5Great” – Most of my files are secured on a 500 GB external hard drive or my many 8 to 32 gig USB flash sticks. That is connected to my Windows Vista desktop (On a mass rotation depending on what I am doing) and after scanning through all my USB drives and IObit Malware Fighter found some infected files. That I had put on a random USB stick to test this feature out.  So it does it’s job very well.

8. Malicious Action Guard – 3.5Average– Very basic and requires very little, or no work at all. It has alerted me to a number of registry changes.

————————–

H. Cloud Support – 3.0Average“- I don’t think this is a good idea at all. That you can view the number of safe files and threats that IObit has found, and then that information is streamed over the cloud to your IObit Malware Fighter. Plus you can even join in and upload your own scan logs to the cloud on IObit’s servers, which allows everyone and not just IObit, but also other users to see what is safe and a threat via a percentage bar in green and red. I wouldn’t recommend using this feature for the security of your own PC’s sake.

I. IObit Support – 4.0Great- Just like in the Freeware version of the program, you have their “Virtual Technical Support” or “Community Forum“. But with the paid version you also get Online Support.

————————–

My Overall Score: 78/105

78 % = B +

————————–

My Final Verdict: IObit Malware Fighter Pro. Is a very simplistic program. Which is actually works in its favour. There are still no real out features (As of yet). IObit Malware Fighter preforms on almost every level as well as it’s competition. Except in its overall lack of daily definition updates. Again 3 or 4 definitions updates a week is very poor and it leaves the question open to me as to why ? Also how in the world can IObit Malware Fighter be considered as an up to date malware program ? That is ready to defend your computer. When there are new threats everyday. And yet only 3 or 4 definition updates a week.

Although there are three different scan levels to this program, it is recommended that you just stick to the Smart Scanning method and allow the program to run in the background while you get on with other daily tasks. All of the IObit Malware Fighter features such as Start-up Guard, Browser Guard, Network Guard, File Guard and Cookie Guard also work well and require no work on your behalf. As long as you keep the program running and definitions updated.

I never really cared for cloud saving before using this program and after using it, I can say that I still don’t like cloud saving as it invites far too many loopholes and ways for people to learn about you, your system and what you do in your life, and should be removed from this program. If you just want to keep your PC secure from issues then just go with the free version, but if you want to do more (and maybe invite people through via the cloud) then the pro version is for you, but I’d definitely not recommending it, and instead say that you should use SuperAntiSpyware instead.

D2. Windows Vista  - 3.5 Average

D3. Windows 7  - 3.5 Average

D4. Windows 83.5Average

————————–

E. Speed of Scan5.0 Excellent – Scan times run on average anywhere from under 10 minutes with quick scan. And just under 1hr for a full system scan.

EE. Types Of Different Scans Available - 3.5 Average” – There are 3 different scan types. But they are the same scan types as pretty much every other program in this category.(Smart Scan , Full Scan, Custom Scan)

F. Update Process2.5 Poor – Needs to be manually updated. But what gets me is the fact that there are only a max of 3 or 4 definition updates a week. This is just plain unacceptable to me for any type of security software. Even in the paid version you only get 3 or 4 definition updates as well.

G. Scan Logs3.5 Average” – The scan logs could be easier to find with an easy to see button. (Other then that minor issue). I find the scan logs super easy to read and understand, But unfortunately, what stops this from getting a higher score. Is due to the process log which is rather hard to understand and rather messy, with no real user friendly-way of reading / understanding it.

————————–

1. Start-up Guard3.5 Average” – Very basic. So far only 5 detention.

2. Browser Guard3.5 Average” – Very basic. So far only 3 detection.

3. Network Guard3.0 Average” – Very basic. So far only 1 detection.

4. File Guard3.0 Average” – Very basic. So far no detection.

5. Cookie Guard3.0 Average” -  Very simple and there for perfect for the basic PC user, with no detection found thus far.

6. Process GuardN/A – Not available in the Free version

7. USB Disk GuardN/A – Not available in the Free version

8. Malicious Action Guard - N/A – Not available in the Free version

————————–

I. IObit Support3.5 Average“- You have their “Virtual Technical Support” or “Community Forum

————————–

My Overall Score: 66/85

77.6 % = B +

————————–

My Final Verdict: IObit Malware Fighter Free. Is a very basic  program with no real stand out features. That I can speak of. IObit Malware Fighter preforms on almost every level as well as it’s competition. Except in its overall lack of daily definition updates. Again 3 or 4 definitions updates a week is very poor and it leaves the question open to me as to why ? Also how in the world can IObit Malware Fighter be considered as an up to date malware program. That is ready to defend your computer. When there are new threats everyday. And yet only 3 or 4 definition updates a week.

But what Malware Fighter does have are some extra features over other freeware programs of this type. IObit Malware Fighter has 5 active features / guards (Start-up Guard, Browser Guard, Network Guard , File Guard and Cookie Guard) That are available and active even in its freeware version package.

That alone makes IObit Malware Fighter better off features wise then Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free. Which only really has manual update and 3 manual scan options.

But not better off then say SuperAntiSpyware Free or Spybot – Search & Destroy.
