AVG Free Anti-Virus 2011 Version (10.0.1136) – Full Review

October 21, 2010

The Results Breakdown:

Passed – Did well in all of our tests

Acceptable – Could go ether way. But in most cases AVG passed

Failed – AVG did not work at all or only worked 1 out of 10 times we ran the test

Not Tested – Has yet to be requested or there is some limitations to prevent accurate test results

Undetermined – Too soon to tell or lacking evidence to provide a solid answer

————————–

A. Stability Of ProgramPassed – No issues with stability at all

B. Has AVG Free Been Compromised By Hackers Or VirusPassed – No issues reported to my us thus far

C. Speed of ScanPassed – Very quick on most computers and now you can dedicate how much memory you want to take up per scan.

D. Does AVG Free Do Automatic Updates By Itself Without IssueAcceptable – Yes, but there seems to be easy with setting up when you want AVG to update. It seems to update ever time other then the when you want. But it still updates so that is importation.

E. Internet Browser Cookie Detection Rate And Removal TestAcceptable - You are way better of with SUPERAntiSpyware. But AVG Is passable provided you click on the option to scan for Internet cookies.

————————–

1. Anti-Virus Detection Rate Test -

1A. Windows XPAcceptable - We are still not sure why but to seems XP has a little bit lower of a detection rate.

1B. Windows VistaPassed

1C. Windows 7Passed

————————–

2. Anti-SpywareFailed – Not sure why but it seems even this new version of AVG seems to miss common and not so common spyware. You are much better off with SUPERAntiSpyware or Spybot.

3. One Click FixPassed – I really like this idea. But I am not a fan of the idea that if I want to de-activated a service. Such as the Link Scanner that it should still shows as not being fully protected. But that just might be me.

4. Link Scanner - Acceptable - Still glitchy at this point. But very useful overall…..

5. Safe Search - Passed - I love this option and very very useful for all thous people that are unsure about websites.

6. AVG ToolBarAcceptable - Not a fan of any toolbars. The AVG toolbar also still seems to be glitchy at this point. As well as it seems to sometimes slow down your Internet browser.

7. AVG SideBar GadgetUndetermined - Not sure how useful this gadget is

8. Residential Shield TestPassed – I find AVIRA still seems to grab the virus a little before AVG does. But it indeed improved in leaps and bounds.

9. E-Mail Scanner - Not Tested - I already have e-mail protection from another program. + I find it is overly way more difficult then it needs to be.

10. Update ManagerAcceptable – Seems update alright. But not when you want it to.

11. Anti-RootKitUndetermined – Still not enough information for a good result

12. PC AnalyzerFailed- If you don’t mind that you only can fix your errors for free once then great. But if you are like me you feel it is confused and mislead or baited to buy this add-on.

13. Identity ProtectionUndetermined – Love the Idea. But we just don’t have enough solid information on this options.

————————–

Overall Rating: 8 Passed, 6 Acceptable, 2 Failed, 3 Undetermined, 1 Not tested (Total # of tests done 20)

————————–

My Final Verdict: I loving the new AVG 2011. But there are still some minor glitches that need to be addressed. But I still highly recommend upgrading even with the few minor faults that AVG Free 2011 still has.

————————–

My Overall Score: 3.5/5

Survey Savvy – Survey Site Review (Oct 2010)

October 19, 2010

Name: Survey Savvy

Link: https://www.surveysavvy.com/

Who Is Eligible To Participate: Pretty much anyone

Type of Award Or Payment: Sweepstakes / Cash / Prizes

Points or Cash Normally Earned Per Survey: $0.00 USD/CAD

Sign-Up Time: Medium length

How Many Survey Invitations Should You Expect Per Week: 0 – 5

How Long Does It Take To Collect A Reward Or Cash Out: Well honestly probably way longer then you’d ever want to wait…

Do They Spam You: Yes

Number of Survey I Have Received Over The Past 8 Years Since Joining: 75

Overall Rating: 0.5 out of 5 – This survey company has some major spamming issues. Even thou this company guarantees you between 1-3 US dollars per survey. You rarely if ever collect said promised money, that was stated in the survey invitation you received.

Extra Info: I have not received 10 survey invitations since my last review way back in July 2010. I would highly recommend avoiding this site because you will be wasting both your time and your effort.
