A: Ok I am going to mention my favorite Survey site but it is only for Canadian residences. That survey site has earned me by far the most money and has super fast delivery or your reward. Said survey company is called Web Perspectives and this is their link  http://www.webperspectives.ca/.

Q+A: Where Did You Guys Come Up With Your Blog Name “Computer Savvy” ?

April 16, 2010

Dear Readers,

Now You Can Follow The Computer Savvy Weblog Via Twitter: http://twitter.com/Computer_Savvy

Well welcome to our fifth day of our READERSHIP driven content Q+A. I got this comment a few times over the years. So I figured it is time to address it. Enjoy.

Q: Where Did You Guys Come Up With Your Blog Name “Computer Savvy” ?

A: I wish I had a really cool story about the name. So anyways I started a company called “Internet Savvy”. But the name confused a lot of people of what we actually did. So I went with a more generic name with the same personality (In this case keeping SAVVY) and then I added Computer in front because that is what we did. We did all things that were computer and tech related not just Internet stuff.

So that is the story of how Computer Savvy name came to be….Told you not very exciting at all.

AVG Free Anti-Virus Version (9.0.801) – Full Review

April 13, 2010

Results breakdown:

Passed – Did well in all the tests

Acceptable – Could go ether way…but in most cases it passed

Failed – Did not work or only worked 1 out of 10 times…the tests were run

Not Tested – Has yet to be requested or there is some limitations to prevent accurate test results

Undetermined – Too soon to tell or lacking evidence to provide a solid answer

——————————————————————————————–

Stability of ProgramPassed – No issues with stability this time around @ least from our tests

Number of times that AVG Free has been compromised by Hacker or VirusPassed – A clean bill of health so far

Speed of ScanAcceptable – Less file types to scan = faster over all scans. Still not sure about the files that AVG./Grisoft downgraded to not essential to overall PC safety.

Does AVG do automatic updates by itself with out issueAcceptable – Yes and no, there seems to be some secret file updates. That AUTOMATIC update refuses to do such as upgrading to this version (9.0.801)

Residential Shield TestAcceptable – Better this time around. But AVG still tends to pick up the virus after infections already has occur.

Internet Browser Cookie Detection and Removal TestPassed - AVG Free has remained the same  in detection rate at this time around. Also the default of AVG Free still appears to not detect Internet cookies. Without you changing your main AVG Free default settings.

Spyware/AdwareFailed – There is no surprise here AVG Free seems to miss pretty much every type of Spyware or Adware we tested it against. We still feel that saying AVG Free is also a adware/spyware program as well as a virus program is a hard pill to swallow, at least at this point in AVG Free development. I would stick to a dedicated program such as Spybot – Search and destroy.

Root Kit Detection Rate - Acceptable – Passed buy just barely

Win 7/Vista / XP Virus detection rate test – Win 7 Passed /VISTA Passed / XP Passed -  Across the board the detection rate has remained the same.

Link Scanner/ Safe SearchFailed – We found no real good reason to use this option. (But I still personally find it slows down what ever browser you are using)

E-mail scannerAcceptable – I still feel the e-mail scanner is way more of a hassle, then being of any use.

————————–

**Like always the results speak for themselves. But as always I leave the final test up to you guys….

————————–

Overall Rating: 5 Passed, 5 Acceptable, 2 Failed, 0 Undetermined ,0 Not tested (Total # of tests done 13)
