FrostWire (4.20.6) – Free P2P Software Review

Well you guys asked for a new review for FrostWire. Your wish is my command…So enjoy the new review for FrostWire (4.20.6)

Con’s

- Older songs are very hard to find

- Takes way too long to load up the Main UI

- There are still some viruses issues not as bad as earlier versions thou

- Not very effective when downloading more then 3 to 6 files at a time

- Still has some searching issues (Sometimes you can not find the song via artist search and instead need to use title search)

- No really as effective as we would like to see when searching for anything other then music

- Some rated MP3 files were not labeled right.

Pro’s

- Free

- Simple to use

- Automatically turns on the Turbo-Charged Download mode

- Files are pretty darn safe. Provided you know what file types you are looking for.

- Now with torrent support  (But we here @ The CSW still prefer the new 2.0 version of uTorrent. But the again we are old school uTorrent fans)

- Way better then competition (Limewire, Bearshare and so on)

- Very slick/appealing interface

- Very light on resources (Both Ram and CPU)

- Really fast keyword and title searching

- Increased sourcing

- Very decent download speed -Even tested with slower bandwidth speed-

- Can find pretty almost any song you could ever want

- Better internal media play integration (But still needs a some work)

Overall I give FrostWire a 4 out of 5 – You can find pretty much any type of music you are looking for. FrostWire is clearly better then pretty much any of its competition such as Limewire yet again.

** FrostWire is killer @ finding music even when it not in the top 40 hits . My only 2 complaints are some older songs are just plain can’t be found and there are still virus issues. That tend to be a more of an issue for novice users who are not quit sure about file types to download.

Web Perspectives Survey Site Slows Down Point Redemption To A Crawl

Ok now anyone who has been following (CSW) for any period of time. Knows that I have always held Web Perspectives survey site (http://www.webperspectives.ca/) in very high esteem. Due to their fair points per surveys and sheer amount of surveys, as well as how fast you can redeem your points and turn them into actually prizes/rewards of your choice.

But I have noticed a very puzzling and very frustrating new trend with them. You still get good points per survey, but now you don’t actually have the ability to use said points. Now for many weeks after you get said survey and have been completed.

Your account summary still shows the amount pending, but JUST pending and that is the problem. Pending looks nice, but are worthless to you till they are actually awarded and usable for any number of prizes and rewards available.

WTF: Gotta CAP-CATCH-A Them All

Today, I am going to talk about a menace to both human and Internet kind.

That threat I am speaking of is called CAPTCHA…….

Seems simple enough idea RIGHT. We need to stop bots and hackers and ad agency. To stop using our blogs, sites an so on as dumping grounds for Internet crap (AKA. Ads, Spam and Porn)

Well It is a great IDEA ….But often it is a frustrating exercise in eye strain and patients of users. That are not even the target for said CAPTCHA tool.

Now before I go any further I wanted to point out what Wikipedia has to say about it, definition wises.

A CAPTCHA – is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to ensure that the response is not generated by a computer or BOT. The process usually involves one computer asking a user to complete a simple test which the computer is able to generate and grade.

Now when I first heard the name I automatically laughed and thought of it as a joke or a new Pokemon themed browser game. Of course I was wrong and form that point on I seemed to notice it popping up everywhere.

The problems with CAPTCHA are as follows reason :

1. Users who have vision problems are often end up super futrated

2. Users who are colour blind also seem to have issues with it as well

3. Sometimes the CAPTCHA is so sensitive that even if you get the right answer. Tt says you are wrong..

4. You never know if it set to being case sensitive

5. Often there is little other option to the CAPTCHA. If you can’t figure it out.

6. The CAPTCHA secondary option the sound bite. Is often harder to get and understand then the number or letter scramble.

My Final Conclusion: So, yes we seem to have reached the point of no return. As more and more sites use this as standard practice. But what I have problems with is when you are a legit user of a site or wish to sign up for a online service and you get stopped sometime a few times by the CAPTCHA. Only to find you are giving up because it is nearly impossible for you to get the answer right or there is some glitch preventing. You from seeing the whole strong of letters and numbers.
