Hey everyone, Remy is back and with a brand new Q+A straight from our very own (CSW)  inbox.  I have been getting a lot of comments and questions in relation to this matter of removing NORTON from their computer and installing one of the top 3 freeware version of AVG, AVIRA and or AVAST. So how do you do it and is it easy…actually not to hard and yeah I was surprised. With all the nightmare stories I have heard from our readers….So here you go…..

Q: How do I remove Norton Anti-Virus from my computer safely ?

A: Actually all you really need to do is follow the prompts from the program which you can find @ the following website http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080710133834EN

-Just please make sure you pick the right Norton version that you have installed on your computer-

-By the way the above also applies to TRAILWARE versions of NORTON as well-

AVIRA Free Takes First Spot On Downloads.com Most Downloaded Files List From AVG Free

Finally after such a long time just on the heels of the juggernaut that is AVG Free Anti-Virus. Now with AVIRA’S new all be it glitchy (10.0.0.561) version of AVIRA Free Anti-Virus it has finally taken AVG down a peg and now seems to be really kicking some As* and taking names now with over a 1,000,000 (million) more downloads then AVG Free Anti-Virus (9.0.730) version. Which if anyone was checking besides me, is crazy out of date with the real newest version of AVG Free being (9.0.791). Which was released on March 16th, 2010.

So I figure that this massive lead that AVIRA Free currently has. Will slowly becomes a true fight when Cnet/download.com offers the newest AVG Free Anti-Virus version as I stated above.

AVIRA Free Anti-Virus (10.0.0.561) User Interface Is Full Of Glitches

Well I’m sure that I was not the only one shocked, as when they updated their own AVIRA Free to the new (10.0.0.561) version. To find that it is full of very noticeable UI (User interface) glitches…

Anyways you maybe asking yourself. “Remy you are insane I like the new AVIRA Free UI !” and I would generally agree with you. But there are some very strange issues I found after using Avira for a few days.

Some of the issues you may have notice are as follows:

1. Your Avira scan  reports of past days may disappear or glitch in and out

2. Sometimes update reports will not show up at all

3. In the worse case of glitchey-ness of all the UI issues I noted. AVIRA’s own options menu and even as far as full tabs fully disappearing or appearing then just disappearing. Then for whatever reason become now un-clickable to the user. Till you close and then re-start you main UI…

AVG Free (9.0.791) Prevents My Other Programs From Connecting To The Internet

So today I checked our e-mail and I found this comment in our inbox. So I figured since you guys asked so nicely why not address said issue….

Comment: Remy, for some reason AVG Free is some how preventing my other windows programs from connecting to the Internet…PLEASE HELP !!!!

My Reply: Hi I am sorry to hear you are having this issue, But unfortunately it is rather common issue with AVG Free. I do have a fix that I have found to be rather helpful and effective….Please try the following fix….

1. Please first disable the LinkScanner component completely

2. Re-start your computer and then check your computer to see if the issue remains.

2A. If the situation does not fix itself

2B. Please try disabling AVG network redirector using the following method.

How to disable the AVG network redirector:

A. Press the Win + R keys.

B. Type devmgmt.msc into the opened window and click the OK button.

C. Select the View -> Show hidden device menu item.

D. Expand theNon-Plug and Play Drivers.

E. Right-click the AVG Network Redirector and Disable it.

F. Re-start the computer.

Well I knew it was only a manner of time before I got this question in my inbox. So since we here @ the (CSW) cover scams and other legal matters regarding business. It is only fair to point out the so called main source that it all started from and often ends off at.

So what does “BBB” stand for ?

“Better Business Bureaus “  – Gathers and report information on business reliability and alerts the public to frauds and scams against consumers and businesses. Also provide information on ethical of business practices, and act as mutually trusted dispute resolutions council between consumers and businesses to resolve any issue that may rise. News media frequently turn to the short forms of both CBBB and BBBs as expert sources of news about scams and consumer related matters.
