Mozilla FireFox (3.6) – Internet Browser Review

February 11, 2010

Dear Readers,

I have been getting a lot of e-mails asking me about doing a full review on Mozilla FireFox (3.6). So heck why not you guys asked so nicely, So here it is..ENJOY

1. How Stable is it ?

- So far, Very Stable

2. Is it better then Internet Explorer 8 ?

- Yes, but not by much anymore

3. Is it fast ?

- Yes, but FireFox does have some issues with some website.

4. Is it safe ?

- Yes very much so….

5. Is it easy to use ?

- Yes very much so

6. Are there any good Add-ons ?

- More then you can shake a stick @ and thous are just the official ones from FireFox add-ons website.

7. What plug-ins do I recommend ?

- Dictonary 1.1.5 (English) – But there are many languages to choose from

- SpellBound 4.0.0 – Killer Spell Checker

- Im Translator 3.3.3 – This add-on puts the power of Google translate at your finger tips

- Autofill Forms 0.9.5.2 – This plug-in has really improved from my last review. I love auto fill because it helps me remember all my information.

- DownloadThemAll 1.1.8 – a great easy to use download accelerator

- FoxClocks 2.5.48 – You need to know what time it is any where in the world..this will help you out..I can tell you it saves me time and helps me set-up meetings.

- LavaFox  – 1.1.0 – By far the best FireFox Theme unfortunately there are still a few bugs to iron out still

8. Can FireFox Remember Your Passwords and User names ?

- Yes and FireFox does it really well. You can even add a master password to prevent people from getting that information. A great improvement from other browsers that I have seen and reviewed.

9. Are there toolbars I can add ?

- Yes there are plenty of toolbars to choose from. But generally I would not recommend adding or installing toolbars.

10. Are bookmarks easy to find and use ?

- Yes, bookmarks are very easy to find, add, sort and delete.

11. Can I delete my Internet history through the FireFox Options ?

- Yes, there is that option

12. Can I delete my private information such as my passwords and user names ?

- Yes, ether all at once or one at a time

13. Is there a download Accelerator bundled with FireFox ?

- No, but there is quite a few download accelerators available to download via https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/

14. Are there download accelerators available for Firefox browser ?

- Yes, there are many to choose from the FireFox website. (Same website as above)

15. Is there a pop-up blocker included with FireFox 3.6 ?

- Yes, it is not that bad. But I’m sure you could get a better one

16. Is FireFox (3.6) a lot different then FireFox (3.5) ?

- Yes there are some extra customizing options now. But I still don’t see an oh my G-d what a shocking difference. So no worries there will be a pretty smooth transition between 3.5 and 3.6. (Just check to see if your add-on are compatible with 3.6)

17. Are there any issues I should know about FireFox 3.6 ?

- Yes, some website will crash and or not work properly with Firefox. There is also random crashing issues but most of that is do to add-ons.

19. Do you use FireFox 3.6 yourself ?

- Yes and I’ll never go back to IE (Internet Explorer) ever again

20. Can it play uTube videos ?

- Yes

21. Is it compatible with AVG link scanner ?

- Yes, now it is again I have received some people report issues ranging in severity

21A. Do you recommend AVG link scanner ?

- Nope.

21B. Do you recommend AVG SAFE SEARCH ?

- Nope.

21C. Do you recommend AVG Security Toolbar ?

- Nope.

21D. Do you recommend any type of program like Site Adviser paid or free ?

- No, generally site advisor’s tend to  slow down your Internet browser. They can however be helpful on a very basic level for newbie Internet users and can flag sites that are real danger. But there are way to many false positive in my tests to say I would recommend anyone….

22. Can you use, Window’s Update Agent ?

Yes, now you can some people have reported errors thou

Overall rating 4 out of 5 – There are still some slow down and crashing issues. There are still a lot of add-ons that are not compatible with 3.6 yet……Such as Google gears……

WTF: Ok So, Did You Just Hijack My Internet Browser ?

February 10, 2010

EPD #15

Today, I am going to talk about a ever increasing threat..this threat is Internet Browser Hijacking. Now this is nothing new…but it seems to be going on a lot more as of late.

The problem is people tend to assume it is virus related…that is a good assumption. But to bad a lot of the times you would be wrong…Now no matter how I put this there will be people out there saying your an idiot and such…Well bring it on…

Why do I say it is commonly not virus related…Well then it would depend on what type of hijacking is taking place…Is it…

1. A Home Page Attack - Were the person or persons, changes your home page to something different without your consent…

2. A General Surfing Browser AttackThis is where you were randomly surfing the next and you get hijacked -No link or ad pressed-

3. A Website HijackThis is where you go to a site and the are diverted to another site or sites…this manly happened with gambling and or adult related sites….

4. Virus Browser Hijack - This is were you connect to the Internet open your Internet browser and the you are not able to control were you go..and are diverted to some sites infected with viruses or are very ris-kay…

—————————————————-

So you are probably asking ask yourself … should I be worried..and my answer is worried not so much concerned and pro-active yes..most defiantly…

Well then what should we do…Well first try to avoid….Internet underground site..such as sites for hacking. Other sites to be careful with any an P2P websites and last but not least..any X rated or adult entertainment site. This includes gambling sites..even the free ones like PokerStars.com

—————————————————–

My Final Conclusion: So, as always I know that not everyone agree with the above statements. But come on people there are some facts that can’t be sweeped under the rug . So be careful where you surf and make sure to have both a virus scanner like AVG and a a scanner for spyware and adware like Spybot…

Do they Spam you: Yes

Number of Survey received over 6 year since joining: Lost count

Overall rating: 1 out of 5 – This survey company has actually gotten worse since my last survey site review, I did back in December 2009. Now it seem next to impossible to qualify for any survey. Not only that they use the word “Guaranteed” sum of money and “promised” amount of money and pretty much never do.

Who is eligible: Canada

Type of Award or payment: Sweepstakes / Points (Cash or Prizes)

Points or Cash normally earned per survey: 0 – 8 points or Sweepstakes entries

How Long to collect reward: Been with them 7 years earned: $50 CAD as well as 2 Product Samples

Do they Spam you: No

Number of Survey received over 6 year since joining: 175

Overall rating: 2 out of 5 – This survey company has always kept it promises to myself as well as my other members. All thou there are very few surveys from them. But when TNS tells you something like your getting to try a product samples or you are getting cash money you will be getting it for sure (NO BEGGING REQUIRED) It appears that TNS has switched to points instead of random sums of money. But it is possible the points are so rare, that I never noticed the points till. I re-logged into my account to update my contact information.
