FrostWire (4.18.6) – Free P2P Software Review

January 15, 2010

Now You Can Follow The Computer Savvy Weblog Via Twitter: http://twitter.com/Computer_Savvy

Well you guys asked for a new review for FrostWire. Your wish is my command… Enjoy the new review for FrostWire (4.18.6)

Con’s

- There are still some viruses issues not as bad as earlier versions

- Not very effective when downloading more then 5 or 6 files at a time

- Still has some searching issues (Sometimes you can not find the song via artist search and instead need to use title search)

- No  really effective when searching for anything other then music

- Some rated MP3 files were not labeled right such as saying excellent quality and it was not even close to what I would call passable…

- Some music files ended up after a fews days getting corrupted

- Some files seem to disappear after download..Like you can’t find them (Unless you run the songs with in FrostWire -When it is running-)

Pro’s

- Free

- Simple to use

- Files are pretty darn safe. Provided you know what files types you are looking for.

- Way better then competition

- Very slick/appealing interface

- Very light on resources (Both Ram and CPU)

- Really fast keyword and title searching

- Great Search engine

- Increased sourcing

- Very decent download speed

- Can find pretty much any song you could ever want

- Great internal media play integration (Still needs a some work)

—————————————————————

Overall I give FrostWire a 3.5 out of 5 – You can find pretty much any type of music you are looking for. But be very careful this program still has some virus issues. FrostWire is clearly better then Limewire yet again. Another note is I would recommend using another media player other then the one included in the FrostWire. Other then using it to test out the songs you have just downloaded.

**FrostWire is still way better then LimeWire, Bearshare and pretty much any P2P program I have tested. FrostWire is killer in finding music other then just the top 25 hot titles. There are still issues with FrostWire there has been major search engine improvements as well as sourcing and speeding up download speed. The speed of  the search engine results can be compared to Google-esc. My only 2 complaints are lack of multi-pull good source tittle , ya sure you’ll find that new Lady Ga Ga song. But good luck finding 3 good source files with over 10 sources. My other issue is the corrupted is the stability of some of the songs you download. They appear to be pron to errors and corruptions days and even weeks after you have downloaded it.

>>My FrostWire Mp3 Download Tip: I personally recommend sticking with the top 2 or 3 results for any search you do on FrostWire. You won’t regret your outcome and your music will download a lot faster<<<

Toluna Survey Panel – Survey Site Review (January 2010)

January 6, 2010

Dear Readers,

Now You Can Follow The Computer Savvy Weblog Via Twitter: http://twitter.com/Computer_Savvy

It’s that time again…. survey website review time

Name: Toluna Survey Panel (Formally the 2 cents survey panel)

Link: http://us.toluna.com/

Who is eligible: Anywhere

Type of Award or payment: Points, Sweepstakes, Product Samples

Points or Cash normally earned per survey:  About 15 points

Sign-up time: Fairly Short

How many Surveys to expect per week: 1-10

How Long to collect reward: Been with them 7 years earned: $50 USD

Do they Spam you: No

Number of Survey received over 6 year since joining: So far I have received 50 surveys and one product sample

Overall rating: 2.5 out of 5 – This survey panel has proved it self in spades to me. It has a decent amount of surveys and not to bad incentives. Although I do feel the amount of points required to get a couple of dollars is more then a little insane. Imagine needing several thousand points just for a few dollars. I feel it is so insane that many people will be put off this survey site all together. But if you do decide to stick it out there will indeed be some sort of  incentive at the end of that very dark tunnel.
