November 18, 2009

Now You Can Follow The Computer Savvy Weblog Via Twitter: https://twitter.com/Computer_Savvy

Hello everyone…I have been getting this question pretty much everyday now..SO I will do another Q+A…Enjoy….

Q: Is It Normal To Not Qualify For Most Of The Surveys I Receive ?

A: There is no easy answer…other then to say there are some survey companies you may never qualify for. Then other sites/companies you will pretty much qualify  for ever survey you get. The issue is balance if you don’t get the number of surveys then Quite but be aware that you may then miss out on a survey later on…

Hope that answer your guys Q,

Ok, now I have had all sort of reports of at least 3 new scam mail attachment virus attacks….

**There are 2 major Hotmail scam mail attachments virus attacks and one generic please open this. All they have is “PLEASE OPEN THE ATTACHMENT FOR MORE INFO“. Then they a small attachment to open…Please what ever you DO NOT OPEN IT….It contains a Trojan Virus that will put a back door on your computer and in only 24-48 hours you may start to notice if you are connected to the Internet. That you no longer can control your computer…IE mouse cursor moving by it self..

Q: What should I do if I get infected by this virus….?

A: If you have opened this attachment…Dis-connect your computer from the Internet and run a virus scan ASAP. So far AVIRA and AVAST have picked it up but not AVG Free (9.0.707).

If you guys need more help regarding this virus attack. Please leave a comment or e-mail me @ computer.savvy@hotmail.com….

But I would advise you to dis-connect from the Internet As Soon As Possible…

What Does The Term “Junk File” Mean ?

November 13, 2009

Junk Files – is a very common term that describes any files that is orphaned or has no real values to the user of said computer. Junk Files are also commonly refereed among tech people as “ghost files or phantom files” for the main reason they don’t scream I am a junk file and you don’t need me. Junk files can be have pretty much any file extension such .tmp , .exe. But what they all have in common is that they are created from regular use of your computer or Internet and will after awhile will take up memory and slow down your computer and or clutter up your registry.

Now, there are many ways to get rid of such files and you probably have a program on your computer already. That will be able to locate such files and remove them. But I personally use to try to remove them myself by hand for sometime when I did not know any better. But now I use a few paid programs to get rid of them such as PC Pitstop, PC Tools, and Tuneup Utilities 2009. Now if you want to go free then there are CCleaner, 10bit,  Glary Utilities. What I recommend to people is try them on for size and see what programs you like. But a great resource and my personal favorite download site is http://download.cnet.com/windows/ …..Please do yourself a huge favorite and take the time out to read the descriptions and reviews….Trust me there are things users will figure out that are not said in the description.
