Core: Detection of the next modification of Virut has been added.
LinkScanner: Support of Firefox 3.5.
LinkScanner: Certain pages recommend by Google not rated by SearchShield.
Toolbar: Fixed RSS downloader of Firefox Toolbar.
Toolbar: Fixed blocking of specific javascript applications in Firefox browser.

AVG Free Forum Is Not Run By AVG/Grisoft Staff At All

Now I feel it is strange that AVG Free Forum is not even run by AVG/Grisoft staff. Instead it is run by what I call users or fan boys of AVG Free Anti-Virus. Now this is not the first time I have seen this done. It is actually very common for free products as well as some video game sites mainly to say money and resources for paid products.

Now there are good and bad things with relation to this. One my site greatly benefits from this lack of professional answers or even the lack of speed and or even the level of difficult for getting the answers everyday people like me need.

Now I have got flake for being to hard on AVG/Grisoft and I know people are gonna ask me where I got this information. Trust me, I would ask the same question myself. So I will site the source and quote from the AVG Free Anti-Virus Forum.

** I just want to make it clear this is not a slam of AVG or Grisoft by any means I personally have found some very useful information. But I was unaware of this aspect of AVG Free Forum or had lacked proof to present to my readers.

** The second stament I wanted to relay to everyone not jsut my readers is. This way of dealing with your core users is useful to very very few people and people with the common questions will find in more then just difficult to relay issues in this format.

Scam Watch: What Does Phishing Mean ?

A lot of people have been asking me what the word Phishing mean. I personally was surprised, that I did not get this question earlier because It is pretty much everywhere. Being  report this and that so how do you know what e-mails to report. If you have no idea what the word Phishing means. So here this is the meaning and breakdown of the word Phishing.

Phishing – is an attempt to criminally and or fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and or credit card information. By looking like a trustworthy source in an electronic communication form. Such as PayPal or E-bay and or Online Banks. Phishing is typically carried out by e-mail or Instant Messenger Services. Such as MSN, ICQ, OR AIM and often directs users to enter details on a website.

New Version Of AVIRA Update Virus (Win32/Polycrypt) Causes Users To Delete Then Re-install AVIRA

Ok, I reported on this virus before. Here is the link AVG Free Anti-Virus Picks Up AVIRA Update Virus (Win32/Polycrypt)

Ok, now I go this virus warning early this morning now. I still have no idea where I got it from..seriously but here is the catch it attacks the UPDATE.EXE of Avira Free Anti-Virus. The virus type is the same called “Win32/Polycrypt” ok now I know this type of virus really well it normally attacks what it says Win32 or .DLL files which are both very important Window’s core files. Now this one does not and even thou both AVG and AVIRA picked it up. AVG Free picked it up first but both failed to catch the virus even thou the option to place in Virus Vault was giving. The same  option was giving with AVIRA but in both cases the files mysteriously disappeared. A very bad sign with any virus I assure you…

1. Q: What does “Win32/Polycrypt” do ?

A: This virus prevents any attempt to update AVIRA and in some extreme cases it will prevent AVIRA Free from working all together.

2. Q: Ok, how do I get rid of “Win32/Polycrypt” Virus ?

A: 1. If you have a Registry Fixer/Scanner run said program twice. I recommend anything PC Tools. You should be looking for anything that comes up red in the “shared DLL category“. It will not always show up unless it is a really bad infection.

1A. Remove all of AVIRA Free Anti-Virus using a new fresh install file. I would recommend this direct download link for AVIRA FREE Anti-Virus link www.download.com

2. Re-start your computer

3. Re-install AVIRA with newly downloaded AVIRA Free Anti-Virus installation file.

4. Re-start computer (not needed by program but a good to do regardless)

5. Try to update AVIRA (Will take awhile you have a lot of files to update..Took me up to an hour, in some cases)

6. Make sure to go to the Administration section and check off the box that says scan computer

6A. Also makes sure you change the times to something you’ll be happy with.

7. Your done. Leave AVIRA to run and update automatically after that…you should be good.

7A. If AVIRA does not automatically scan or update. Un-install AVIRA again and install AVAST or AVG.

It appears that there is a new Update for Mozilla FireFox 3 (3.0.11) here is the list of some of the fixes and improvements…

Firefox 3.0.11 fixes several issues found in Firefox 3.0.10:

• Fixed several security issues.
• Fixed several stability issues.
• Several issues were reported with the internal database, SQLite, which have now been fixed by upgrading to a newer version.
• Fixed an issue where, in some specific cases, the bookmarks database would become corrupt. (bug 464486)

Core: Improved update process when restart is necessary.
Toolbar: New Toolbar implemented.
Update: Closing IE/Firefox browsers, and restart might be required with this update to make Toolbar fully functional.
