Spybot – Search & Destroy 1.6.2 – Freeware Software Review

Here is my Review on Spybot – Search & Destroy…ENJOY

1. Ease of use – Easy – Medium difficulty - The reason I say medium is because it has expert mode and default mode…using expert mode…has it’s perks for sure and it is not as user friendly as PC Tools. Yes, I know I’ll have ppl commenting saying it is…really easy FU…but I call it as I see it and I review a lot of programs…some of which are of course not posted….YET…

1a. Interface - very old school and not very pretty but it does work very well..not many options on the surface…but odd wording like IMMUNIZE and Spybot does not really really immunize anything…at least in the dictionary term meaning any ways….

2. Quality of scan – Really good….gives you a good piece of mind and does have something like 500,000 spyware/adware definitions it scans for and everyday that number goes up…

3. Updating -very very fast….just try to remember to choose your country and language..nothing bad will happen to you if you don’t…but it will help make things a lot easier….

4. Can you run other programs during the scan ? in most cases…Not Recommended

4a. Can you run programs during update ? Yes….takes like next to no CPU power or paging from my tests

5. Is there a progress bar? it does have a progression bar….but no % complete which would be nice…..

6. Can you leave it running and it will run with out issue ? Yes…you can no doubt

7. Is there adware or Spyware bundled with it ? A big NO

8. Will it scan archive files ? Not sure, but I believe it does

9. Is it stable ? Very stable, provided you update it, On a regular bases

10. How long do scans take ? Pretty darn quick, even for slow computers….about 30min – 3hrs…again depends on speed of your computer

Over all a 4 out of 5 – The main reason being crazy CPU power usages during full scan…but I am really impressed by how fast it updates and scans…

Extra info: This program..has had issues relating to the Tea Timer Part of the program running with some virus scans or other adware/spyware programs….but will run in tandem with AVG 8 free virus scan….OVER ALL A VERY USEFUL…FREEWARE APP….

Mozilla FireFox 3.1 Beta 3 Available to download

Dear Readers,

It appears that…Mozilla FireFox 3….has it new 3.1 Beta 3 available to download in a ton of different languages to suit you taste and background

** I have not downloaded the new beta version as of yet….but a few of my members plan to….

SO I can’t say I would recommend it because it is still in Beta..but if you do give it a whirl by all means let me know…what you think and I’ll post it..

AVG Adds Yet Another Update Into The Mix (8.5.285)

It appears that yet again AVG/Grisoft has yet another update to throw into the mix….they have had so many updates …I am actually running out of titles..for my AVG update posts…..

well as always..I’ll track this on and report on it..improvements ..issues and fixes…for the new AVG Free update 8.5.285..

AVG Free Anti-Virus (8.5.437 or 9.0.829) Won’t Update Because AVG Is Missing .Bin File Or .Crt File

Dear Readers,

(Last Updated June 17, 2010 @ 2:50 pm EST) 

Well it seems after the last few days with no issues..with AVG Free (8.5.437 or 9.0.829) there is a snag..my AVG will not update the update says failed because of ether missing .bin file or control file…

I’ve been told by AVG/Grisoft that it I should attempt to update my AVG later today or early 2morrow and said issue will be resolved..

**It seems that as of 5am EST today. I was able to update automatically from the AVG server without the .bin or .crt missing file messages. Well done AVG/GRISOFT for fixing this issue quick like.

AVIRA Free Anti-Virus Moves Up In Total Downloads @ download.com

Dear Readers,

I knew it was just a matter..of time before AVIRA got the downloads needed..to actually take the second most downloaded program on Cnet’s Sister site…

All I have to say well it is about time….on another note AVAST seems to be holding firm at the 5th over all downloads position..even thou AVAST still has a little bit better detection rate then AVIRA or AVG….again..that does not come from me..that comes from sites all across the net…even thou the reason AVAST is so far down is because of the not really user friendly interface or set-up…

LimeWire Free Version (5.1.2) Seems To Have Fixed Some Issues From The Last Version

Dear Readers,

First off I know I am late..with regards to this update to LimeWire Free (5.1.2) My bad….but after doing my normal tests..I still find this version..terrible compared to version 4..it is a lot harder to get the music you want…searching is a lot harder…

Issues I have noticed they have improved are the porn or adult content filters..as well as faster search time and download time..the search time has increased in speed a lot…and download time just a little bit..still littered with viruses..all over the place….

On another note: I have noticed that Bitiz Ticket has been removed at least on the free version…I may have missed it…. but I very much doubt it…

New Version of AVG Free Anti-Virus (8.5.283) Available @ Download.com

Dear Readers,

To my Surprise….after trolling to one of my favourite download site’s…I found that today the new version of AVG free was released to the public via Cnet’s sister site www.download.com.
